Jonsey led her back up the dirt road towards the Central Zone, as the sun started to drop down in the sky. The silent two cranks walked behind her. Evelyn didn't feel like she was in danger. But then maybe the Crank was dampening her danger alarm. She even slid her knife into her holster on her belt. She did though keep a grip on her trusty hatchet. At the wall Jonsey took a turn to the left and followed the stone wall.

Evelyn skipped along, swinging her hatchet, quietly singing a song that she knew words to, but didn't understand where she remembered it from. It had a creepy somber  twisted feel to it, but it was hauntingly beautiful.

Are you, are you comin' to the tree?
Where they strung up a man, they say, who murdered three. Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be. If we met at midnight in the hanging tree.

Are you, are you comin' to the tree
Where dead man called out for his love to flee? Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be. If we met at midnight in the hanging tree.

Are you, are you comin' to the tree
Where I told you to run, so we'd both be free?
Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be. If we met at midnight in the hanging tree.

Are you, are you comin' to the tree
Where necklace of hope, side by side with me? Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be. If we met at midnight in the hanging tree.

Are you, are you comin' to the tree
Where I told you to run, so we'd both be free?
Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be. If we met at midnight in the hanging tree.

She softly sang the haunting song again, as she swung her hatchet, back and fourth skipping behind the huge crank she only met 5 minutes ago.

"That's a pretty song Miss." Jonsey said, looking over his shoulder, "Where'd you learn it?"

Evelyn shrugged. Jonsey turned away from the wall down a dark street, one that Evelyn would normally have turned tail and ran; instead she followed without question.

"Almost there."

Evelyn shrugged again. She had stopped skipping. Her stomach was growling again and she felt exhausted all of a sudden. Jonsey turned down a street that looked like a back alley.

"Spooky." She grinned.

The setting sun didn't reach this narrow crooked alley, the shacks on each side throwing shadows all over the paved alley. Garbage strewn across the dirt road like confetti. The windows here were smashed out like everywhere else, but the windows were haphazardly boarded up. Graffiti covered almost every part of the walls. Random wires and cables hung from building walls.

Now that Evelyn wasn't singing, she noticed the buildings in this section were taller, more than a shack or a one story. These looked like they used to be 3 to 4 story apartment buildings or some kind of old industrial business buildings; meaning the buildings were brick and not cheap wood or canvas tents.

Evelyn could sense eyes watching them, peering from behind the boards or feel in shadows she couldn't quite see. Evelyn saw a few rats scrounging the tiny bits of scraps that could be found. There was more wild screaming, now that it was darker out. Evelyn had been dumped here in Crank Palace a full 24 hours ago, crazy how her life changed.

She watched as a few shadows scurried out of the way as their group walked down the alley, to this mysterious destination to talk to this unknown Boss.

"You must be pretty important." Evelyn said, stepping in line with him.
