Inner Eye

Mother was always paranoid, and we never lived in one place for long. We had most recently moved here, to Charleston, South Carolina. The last place we lived in was across the states, in a town in Wyoming.

My room was small, and left me to my imagination. I was prisoner to my own mind. Those, those boys. Non of the other people in the park had seen them. Why did I? They mentioned something about the 'inner eye', but what was that? Did I have it?

I shook my head, trying to clear the thoughts swarming deep in my mind. It felt as if ice was freezing my blood, but I couldn't shiver. Coldness swept over my body like a cloud, clinging to me like a cloud of mist.

I felt alive.

But as the darkness of night descended, exhaustion finally caught up to me. I lay in bed, wrapped in the cold cloud surrounding me and me alone.

The air shifted around me, heat pouring into the room. I shot up, looking around, weary. A sweaty hand covered my lips, and something wrapped around my eyes. A vanilla and leather and cypress smell intoxicated my senses. I was hefted up and carried. The air shifted as we entered a thinner hallway, and bumped up and down as whoever was carrying me walked down stairs. Another door was opened before fresh air hit me. It felt as if it knocked the wind away. I felt too warm, in this stranger's arms.

The man was silent, as was his companion, as they walked through the night. I struggled, twisting and pulling, trying to escape. "Your attempt is futile," a voice whispered in my ear, softly. I recognized it, though. The damage was done. It was Luke.

I was being kidnapped. Great.

After what felt like hours, Luke stopped walking. A heavy door opened and he started walking again, along with his partner. Fatigue was catching up with me. I felt like burnt, dead weight, hanging in his arms. A dusty smell hit me full force as doors clanged shut behind me. A movement startled me as we were jolted upwards. An elevator?

"Hi Max," the person next to us said. His voice startled me. A bark shook me to my bones. "Where's the doc? Can you bring us to him?"

The two continued to walk. I felt as if I should be panicking, but I was too tired. I gave up fighting a long time ago.

This hallway wasn't as dusty, and another door opened up. Luke walked in, followed by the dog and other man.

"Is that her?" A friendly voice asked.

"Yeah, it's her alright." North's voice sounded farther in the room.

Where was I?

"She fought almost the whole way here." The one smelling of leather and cypress said.

"Take the blindfold off of her, that's no way to treat a lady." the friendly voice said. Something underlined his tone, was it flirty?

The darkness disappeared, and I blinked trying to adjust to the bright florescent lights. White beds, ceilings, and floors caught my attention. Were we in a hospital wing?

"Nathan, go get Mr. Blackbourne please." I turned to see the person who aided in my kidnapping walking away. He had red brown hair, and a serious face. The person who spoke, had sandy blonde hair, khakis and a button up shirt opened up about halfway, and a doctoring coat. "Go ahead and set her on the bed, will you Luke."

He carried me over to the nearest white bed and sat me down. The doctor towered over me. "I'm doctor Green, but someone as pretty as you can call me Sean." He winked. A blush rose to the very faintest of colors on my cheeks.

The door opened, and a man in a grey suit, black rimmed glasses, and steal eyes walked in, Nathan trailing behind him.

Panic lapsed again. I was running on adrenaline. I looked down at my arms, and they looked normal, good.

"This is the person you two ran into earlier today?" His voice was steal, too.

"Yes, this is her." Luke said.

"She could see the demon?"

Luke and North nodded.

"And she wasn't brought up in a camp like Silas?"

"I'm positive that she doesn't know, but has the inner eye. We thought she was another demon, and then it happened." North said.

"What's your name?" Mr. Blackbourne asked, swinging his gaze towards me.

"Sang, Sang Sorenson."

I'm pretty sure I was about to have a panic attack. Sean looked at me and seemed to understand. He rummaged through the drawer next to the bed and I lay still. His soft, flirty smile distracted me for a moment. Then he pulled out a needle, and my eyes widened.

I started to climb away, my panic increasing. North grasped my arms, and I screeched.

"Let go!" My voice was loud pitched, and almost shrilly. "Let go let go let go let go! First you attack me, attempt to kidnap me, then kidnap me, and now you're going to stab a needle in my skin that's containing god knows what!"

At my words, Mr. Blackbourne's sharp eyes turned to North and Luke, narrowing slightly.

"Don't worry Sweetie, this will just help you relax." Sean said, stepping closer. I was hanging off of the bed, North holding me as support. His calloused hands didn't sooth at all.

"NO! Get back!" I shrieked loudly. I didn't know where to look. My eyes flashed from the needle to each of the faces of the guys in the room. They looked concerned.

The icy chill was back, spreading through my blood, stronger this time. I looked down to see the white swirls and designs appear on my arms, and then they started to glow, glowing brighter than any other time they had.

"Shit," North cursed behind me. "She just, froze. Like something inside her just flipped a switch, and it's freezing her from the inside. Fucking hell." he bellowed.

My arms were glowing bright, an almost painful white glow. A soft glow peaked out from underneath the back of my shirt. I whimpered.

"Sang," Sean's voice said softly. "We need to get this into your system. You'll be alright, I promise."

"Says the one who's in the group of killers and kidnappers!" My voice was shrill, and I'm pretty sure the dead could hear me. I was thrashing hard.

"North, back away," Mr. Blackbourne commanded.

He let go and went to stand by the others. Sean continued walking closer to me. I backed up so much, I fell off of the bed. I scrambled to stand, and it reminded me of earlier today in the park.

"Now," Mr. Blackbourne said sharply. I was picked up and restrained. Dr. Sean walked closer, the needle poised. A musk scent captured my smell. My eyes flew all around. Luke grabbed my hand, in a comforting effort, and Nathan tipped my head to the side, staring deeply into my eyes.

"It'll be alright Sweetie. It'll all be over soon."

The needle plunged deep into the side of my neck, and I screamed.

I kept screaming. High pitched in pain and terror.

A slight tingling burn spread from where the needle had been. It was gone.

I was hoarse, and my attempt on letting anyone hear me was gone. My throat was on fire. My arms were bright, and it was almost hard to look at them. The designs were mashed.

I swallowed a thick lump forming in my throat. I felt sick. Nausea waved over me, and the coldness inside disappeared. I felt dizzy.

"Lay her down." Sean said.

I was laid gently. "You'll get some rest, some food, and then we'll talk. There's a lot for you to learn." Sean said, giving me a smile.

The door burst open, and my eyes felt heavy.

"What's wrong? We heard screaming." A baritone voice said.

"We found her, we found the Posheidon...." what did they say? Was that Nathan who said it? Voices swarmed around my head.

Blackness crashed over me suddenly, taking me to the depths of the hidden shadows. The last thing I remember was the warmth of lips press to my forehead and the soft, reassuring words, "Good night. Sweet dreams, for now."
