Alabaster Scythes

A low hiss surrounded me, and I closed my eyes welcoming the distracting. My muscles ached, and My eyes were heavy. I wanted to slip into oblivion, the very same one I feared. A sigh escaped my slightly parted lips. "What is it now?" My voice cracked, and was hoarse. "The darkness attacked again," a smooth voice curled with an accent. "I was told to get you," I nodded stiffly. The hissing from the fried lamp continued. "Give me a moment, please." He left. The heaviness finally drug my eyelid slowly shut, like walking through a swamp. "We're coming for you," a voice cackled. "I'm coming for you." I was too tired to fight it. Tears of weakness and shame slithered past my eye lids regretfully. "I know," I whispered. "Only one can survive while the other is destroyed," I recited. A chill wracked my spine violently. I breathed in deeply, the smell of death clouding my sense. "At least let me say goodbye," The laughing grew louder. "You think evil would allow you to scurry off and give your last words, Sang? It's almost as if you don't know you your dealing with. Those you call friends cannot help you this time." I pressed my eyes to open. "They were using you. They lead me to you," his lips whispered in my ear. I finally opened my eyes, losing the feeling of all other muscles, collapsing to the ground. I failed. Darkness was surrounding me, and the glass orb fell from my hands as tears streamed down my face. The glass shattered and all light disappeared, no more magic left in it. The chill over took me violently, shaking me from the core. I looked up, "Finish it all ready," I gasped venomously. "As you wish," he cackled once more. Red glowing light from the alabaster scythe arched in the sky, headed straight for me. "I'm so sorry," I whispered before the final strike.

I sat up from Gabe's bed gasping. Did I just die in my dream? Was that Silas's voice? My hands were shaking and my marks were glowing strong. A thin breath made it to my lungs as I slowly climbed away from Gabe, detangling myself from his arms. They were suffocating me.

My feet pattered against the tiled ground as I made my way to my room to jot down my dream. I was shaken far beyond what I usually was.

Just as I was finishing my dream, a knock on my door startled me. "Come in."

Kota emerged in my doorway and I smiled. "Ready for training today?"

"Yeah, just give me a second. I need to get dressed."

He smiled. "I'll wait for you in the hall."

I hastily changed and followed Kota. We were taking a different hall than the one we had taken to the training room.

"Today it'll be just you and me. Nathan had to do something."

"Where are we headed?" I asked, my curiosity getting the best of me.

"To the yard. It's in the middle of the institute. I thought you'd like some fresh air."

I couldn't hold back the smile spreading across my face.

When we were there, the sight had me holding back a gasp. The yard was beautiful. There were flowers, trees, an old brick wall, and so much more.

"Let's work on your balance, alright?"

I nodded, "Sounds good."

He had me stand on each foot while balancing something.

Finally, he had me climb up on the brick wall, which I begged him to allow.

"Fine, but you have to promise me to be careful," concern covered his face.

I held back rolling my eyes. "I'm fine Kota. Now what do you want me to do?"

Once again I was standing on a foot. I shifted it slightly, and the next the I knew I was falling. I was too startled to scream.

Before I could land on the ground, arms wrapped around my waist, holding me. Kota's chest was rising and falling just about as fast as mine. My arms instinctively wrapped up and around his head.

"Sang," he breathed. "You scared me,"

"I'm so sorry Kota," i felt guilty. He hadn't wanted me to climb up there anyways. It was dangerous, he had said. "The brick under my foot gave loose."

"Are you alright?"

I couldn't not giggle. "I'm fine, really." My fingers tangled in his soft hair, teasing his scalp with the ghosting of my touch.

"Sang," his voice was full of warning, coming out as a slight growl.

My hands slid back, rubbing the spot behind his ears. Kota gasped, a growl emitting from deep in his throat. His breathing fastened.

"We can't do this, Sang." He gasped out between breathes.

I was confused, what were we doing?

His arms unwrapped from around my waist and I spun in his arms, my hands tangling in his hair again. I took in how close we were, our stomachs touching and our air mixing. I saw something in his eyes that excited me. What was it though?

His phone buzzed and we zipped apart. My face was on fire. What was I doing? And who was i kidding? What did all of this mean?

Kota sighed. "I've been called in. Want me to walk you to one of the others?"

"Yes please." I couldn't help but look at my toes. I felt so embarrassed.

As we were walking, my foot got stuck in a hole and I fell, hard.
