I'm sorry.

"I'm sorry."

Two words that I had never even dreamed of this boy, or should I say more of a man, ever saying to me of all people. Yet he didn't stop at just that, because after a long pause he continued while hugging me even tighter.

"I'm sorry that I didn't let you know who I was. I'm sorry for not recognizing you from the very start. I'm sorry I never received your letter, nor replied to it. But above all else, I'm sorry I never came to search for you. And sorry that I didn't come find you sooner." His voice was full of regret, sorrow, and sincerity, letting me know that his many apologies were completely honest.

We stood like that for what felt like days, but was probably only minutes.

I sigh, knowing that it would get darker soon, and being outside during the dark could be incredibly dangerous.

"Zuky." I whisper.

"We should get out of here, its not safe when the sun goes down. There's no time for me to take you back to town, so you just have to stay the night with me. My home isn't far from here." I say, letting go of the hug and tugging his shirt to tell him to let go.

He slowly let go but quickly turned his face away from my, as if to hide something from my view. I gently take his hand. When did so, even though I could no longer see his face, his red ears told me exactly what he was hiding.

I giggle to myself as I carefully start walking towards my home, with my old friend in tow behind me.

~~in the house~~

"You've really changed, Klare." Zuko stated boldly as he sits down on the couch in my main room.

My house was a fairly simple one but still a rather nicely sized home. It was made up of a main room, a kitchen, a bedroom, and bathroom.

"It's been over six years since we last saw each other. Of course I've changed, but you can't honestly think that you haven't. By what I've noticed so far, you've changed a lot more than I have by far. Both in looks and attitude." I said, leaning on the side of the chair across from him, crossing my arms as I said it.

"That's because-!" He angrily started but quickly cut off when he saw me glare at him. There was a hint of fear in his eyes, though I don't blame him. Even after I left him, I've never glared at any one, or even gotten mad.

"I don't want to know the reason why. And you, sir, do not yell in this house. Speaking in a normal voice in here is good, especially when we're in the same room." I scolded him.

He looked down, avoiding all eye contact with me. "Sorry. I'm too used to staying outside all the time."

I let out a sigh, honestly feeling bad for getting mad. "No, no, it's fine. I know you've had a rough time after I left, wether it was because I left or not, I'm not sure, but just remember that even after I left I always kept you in my thoughts. I had just hoped that you would have done the same."

I stand back up as my arms fall back to my sides. I turn away, not even giving him a chance to say anything more. "Sleep on the couch, there's a pillow and blanket in the box over I'm the corner of the room so use those. Don't leave in the morning without me unless you really want to cause problems for the both of us." I look back at him with a slight glare before turning back around and turning in for the night.

~~le Timeskip~~

I woke up, changing into a nice fire nation red dress, my normally boring shoes, and the bracelet was placed onto my wrist.

As I exit my room and go to the main room, I notice a soft snore and peak over the back of the couch before letting out a small sigh and smile.

His sleeping face was still just as adorable as it was when we were kids.

I quickly turn away, not wanting him to see the heat rushing to my cheeks if he was to suddenly wake up. I rush into the kitchen, open the window, and then take out a pot. I made some of the water from my well outside as I put some tea leaves in the pot. Once everything was together I remembered that I didn't have a stove yet so I held the pot over my finger. My finger lit up and started to brew the tea.

The next thing I heard was a gasp behind me. I turn around in shock, the fire going out as I see a Zuko standing in the kitchen doorway. "H-how much did you see?!"

"...all of it..."

We stood there in awkward silence. The tension was unbearable, until Zuko finally broke it.

"You're a bender?"
