This is might be canon, but I thought a Valentine's Day special would be a good chance to write something really adorable and lovey-dovey, so here ya go! Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!!!!  Btw, I'm not sure if Valentine's is a thing in the atla world, so it'll be called Heart's Day. Enjoy! 💛💝💓🖤

Klare was laying on a grassy hill a small distance away from the fire palace. She had been asked by her best friend the night before to meet him there. Happily, she had obliged to his request.

The girl watched the leaves sway in the soft breeze, wondering why they were meet here, as the sakura blossoms delicately fell every now and then. "Klare! You're already here!" The familiar voice called, causing her to sit up and smile welcomingly as the young prince walked up the hill to her. "Hi, Zuky. Yeah, I finished all of my chores early so that I didn't have to worry about getting in trouble."

Zuko nodded, finally making it to where his friend was. Upon the boy's arrival at the top of the hill, Klare noticed that he was hiding something behind his back, but she chose not to ask about it.

Klare scoots backwards so that her back leans on the tree trunk and pats the spot next to her. Zuko happily obliged, taking a seat next to her. They sat so close that their sides and legs touched, but for them, sitting any further apart would be uncomfortable. The boy fidgeted nervously, which Klare quickly took notice of and reassuringly intertwined their touching arms before repeating the action with their fingers. "Everything okay, Zuky? You seem a bit uneasy about something. Is it something that Azula said? Or your father, perhaps? Whatever it is, I'm always here if you want to talk about it."

The year older boy smile gratefully down to the girl beside him. Even in the short time that she'd been at the palace, she'd already managed to weave herself so tightly into his life. He found to be a kind, caring, gentle, and overall the most understanding person he's ever met in his entire life. Not only that, but there was just a certain charisma about her that just seemed to draw him to her.

Finally gathering all the assurance he needed, Zuko pulled out the tiny box that he was hiding. It was a surprisingly simple red box with gold swirls and a golden colored ribbon. "Here..." Klare gasped, hesitating to make any moves for the gift.

"Zuky... I, I don't know what to say." Zuko smiled, not willing to look back at her. "Maybe Happy Heart's Day?" She tilted her head in utter confusion. "Happy... Heart's Day? What's that?" Now Zuko was shocked. "You don't know what Happy Heart's Day is?" She shook her head. "Where I'm from, there's no such thing, or at least I've never heard anything about it before..."

That was true. At the shrine, they never celebrated a day for loved ones. It wasn't a necessary holiday for them as there were very few couples and showing affection was an everyday event for those pairs.

Klare leaned closer to Zuko, curiosity sparkling in her eyes. Zuko leaned away in shock at the sudden closeness. "So, Zuky, what exactly are we supposed to do for Heart's Day?" He mentally panicked, blushing a bit at remembering how older people explain the day. "It's... uh... a day when we do or give things to people that we- uh- admire..." He kept trailing off, embarrassed about explaining it to her while trying not to practically confess.

Zuko plopped the present onto his best friend's lap, indicating for her to open it. "It's probably not that good. I've been sneaking to the kitchen and having Sealynn teach me how to make them the past couple nights. They're probably terrible, but I couldn't let Azula or father find out." Curiously, Klare pulled the ribbon undone and opened the box. Inside were pieces of fudge and one chocolate-covered cherry (which he had learned from Sealynn was Klare's favorite fruit). She gasped in awe and smiled a very joyful and caring smile. Zuko soon smiled as well upon seeing what he believed was the prettiest smile he'd ever seen.

Klare sent him a side glance, a mischievous gleam reflecting off the sparkling pools of ice. She leaned onto him and kissed him on the cheek before he could even think about shifting away. He was frozen to his spot, not even willing to so much as move his eyes to look at anything but the trees below them.

A soft, light giggle finally drew Zuko's attention to Klare. Heat rose quickly into the boy's cheeks at the sound. It's was a familiar voice to his ears, but for some reason it seemed different than normal, like it had a lighter tone to it than he was used to. "Thank you, and... Happy Heart's Day!" She grinned, a small blush illuminating her cheeks and causing Zuko's face to resemble a rose.

----
Unknown to Zuko, to this day, Klare has kept the golden ribbon he gave her that Heart's Day. Usually, she keeps it tied around an ankle, or sometimes in her hair or around her neck.
