Chapter 2: Silent in the Shadows

After a good breakfast, Ino, Sakura, and Naruto each kissed Konan on her cheek. "Breakfast was wondering, Konan," Sakura said as Ino nodded in agreement. "Breakfast made by you, Mom, is the best," Naruto said as Konan blushed slightly and smiled. As the trio rushed to the front door and got their sandals on, Konan spoke up "Hold you three." she started as the trio looked at her in confusion. "Lord Third is making an announcement today, and I don't want any, and I mean ANY of you three anywhere near the tower, got that!." she said as she crossed her arms and showed a stern expression at them as they rapidly nodded their heads then Konan smiled at them. "Good, now play nice with your friends, and please don't get covered in mud... Again..." she said as the trio smiled and nodded again, and then they left the house "Bye, Konan/Mom." the trio said in unison as Naruto shut the door behind them. Konan smiled softly, headed to her study room to work on her archaeology, and looked at items she found as a Jonin Team Leader. Several minutes later, Naruto, Ino, and Sakura walked towards the part to meet their friends. "Hey guys, why don't we just take a peek at the announcement and see why Konan-sensei doesn't want us there," Ino suggested, making the two worried. "Um... I don't think we should disobey Konan-sensei's request." As Naruto nodded in agreement with Sakura, Sakura said, but Ino crossed her arms and rolled her eyes.

"Look, I'll take the heat for the three of us, and we're just going to see what's going on..." Ino said as she grabbed her sister and Naruto's wrists and dragged them along to the Hokage Tower. After a few minutes, they arrived just around the corner to see that an execution was happening. As they peeked around the corner, they saw Danzo Shimura kneeling atop the Hokage Tower. Standing next to him were Hiruzen and a few ANBU. "Oh Kami... Now I know why Mom said never to go here." Naruto said as Ino and Sakura nodded in agreement. Just the trio looked away, and they were caught by a twenty-one-year-old Rin Nohara, who was crossed with them. "Follow me, NOW!." she demanded as the trio nodded and quickly followed Rin. A few minutes later, they arrived at the park entrance that the trio was going to. Rin had her arms crossed and was disappointed in them. "Alright, I'll ask this only once, so listen up," she said as Naruto, Ino, and Sakura all straightened up as if they were in the military. "What did you see?." she asked with a hint of anger and worry as the trio was a bit too scared of her to speak up, but after a few seconds, Sakura spoke first. "We didn't see much... As soon we spotted that old man on his knees, we knew it was an execution." Sakura started, but Ino finished what her sister started before Rin could ask. "We were just about to leave until you caught us." Ino finished as Rin looked at them, trying to see a hint of lying, but she didn't see any of that and sighed in relief. Then Naruto went up to Rin and gently tugged on her left arm. "Big sis, why was that old man going to die?." he asked. Rin doesn't want to tell them, but she can't say no to her little brother figure, and they will find out sooner or later. Just as Rin is about to talk, she is interrupted by Itachi and Sasuke. "Yo, Rin!." Itachi said as the two Uchiha brothers walked to the park to drop off Sasuke with his friends.

Rin suddenly facepalmed herself. "Oh, for Kami's sake... The only two I was hoping not to bump into," she said, leaving the two brothers puzzled. The two looked at Naruto, Ino and Sakura, and finally, back at Rin. "What's going on here?." Itachi asked, then Naruto said, "Big sis Rin was about to tell us why the old man on top of the Hokage tower was going to be executed." Naruto partly explained, and this interested Itachi since he's an ANBU. Itachi looked at Rin. "Okay, tell us what happened," he asked as Rin just went. "Ugh..." then she looked at Itachi and sighed. "Alright, alright, the old man is Danzo. He was caught and charged with treason and is now labelled a traitor," she said as the four kids listened in and were still confused, but Itachi was a bit surprised. "What did that old fart do?." he said with his arms crossed and wanting to know the reason, "First off, hold him." Rin started as she pointed at Sasuke. The two brothers looked at each other and shrugged, but Itachi walked behind his brother, kneeling at Sasuke's level and lacing his arms around his little brother's stomach. Then everyone looked at Rin. "Secondly, the old fart secretly attempted and failed to kill Shisui Uchiha," she said as she now saw the shock and disbelief in the Uchiha brother's faces. Then she saw anger in Sasuke's face. "THAT MONSTER TRIED TO KILL BIG BRO SHISUI," Sasuke yelled as he tried to get out of Itachi's arms. "Sasuke, calm down." Itachi said as he tried calming his little brother, "Please calm down, Sasuke; Shisui is alright... Apart from losing his right eye, he's alright." Rin started as she was trying to calm him down, too. "He's currently in the hospital. I'm seeing him soon. I'll tell him you said hi and hope he gets well, okay." she said as Sasuke calmed down a bit. Then Naruto came up and took Sasuke's hand. "C'mon, think positive for now. I'm sure Shisui wanted you to remain positive. Let go get the others," he said with his bright smile. Sasuke smiled and nodded as the kids rushed into the park and headed for their friends while Itachi and Rin looked at each other.
