Chapter 41: Tsunade Senju, The Fifth Hokage

Five days after the events of the battle against Kabuto. Jiraiya and Naruto had returned to the Leaf Village with a confused Shizune and a heartbroken Tsunade, who wanted to go back out there and find her son. Inside the Hokage office, with Konan, Rin, Anko, Ryoko, Asami, Ino, and Sakura were waiting for Jiraiya and Naruto's return, and then suddenly, an ANBU appeared out from the shadows and was wearing a Wolf mask, and then he kneeled on his left knee. "Please, pardon my introduction, Lady Hokage," Wolf said as he waited for Konan to speak. The family was curious about Wolf's sudden appearance, and Konan spoke up. "It's alright, Wolf. Why are you here?" Konan asked as she and the others waited to hear what Wolf had to say. "Jiraiya has returned and is making his way here with Naruto," Wolf said as this news made Ino and Sakura deeply happy, as Ino missed Naruto since he left, and it would give her some time away from her mother's training for a while. "Thank you for letting us know, Wolf," Konan said as Wolf nodded his head, and then he used Shunshine to teleport away. Anko and Rin were nervous, and Konan noticed this. "I get it. We haven't seen her in years, so we'll have to see what she is like after all this time," Konan said as Rin and Anko nodded, and then Anko went over to the window, leaned against the wall from the left side of the window, and then she crossed her arms, waiting for her Mother to come into the room. Rin went over to the couch, across the Hokage desk, and then sat down between her adopted daughters, Ryoko and Asami, as they were nervous to meet their adoptive Great-Grandmother. Suddenly, the family could hear footsteps coming towards the office, and everyone but Konan held their breath. Ino and Sakura held hands as they weren't sure what Tsunade was going to be like, and Konan watched her family and could see them being scared or nervous to meet their Great-Grandmother and their Aunt Shizune. Suddenly, the footsteps stopped outside the door, and then a few knocks followed. "Come in!" Konan said as she couldn't wait to see her family back together again. Then the door slowly swung open, and walking in were Jiraiya, Naruto, Shizune, and lastly Tsunade, but right away, Konan, Rin, and Anko noticed something wasn't right with Tsunade. Then, Tsunade walked past everyone and stood in front of the Hokage desk, mostly with her head hung down, not looking Konan in the eyes. Then, Konan stood up, walked around the desk, and hugged her mother, but Tsunade did not move and just stood there. "It's great to see you again, Mom," Konan started. But Tsunade was in a bad state and didn't listen to her daughter. Then, Konan leaned away and softly smiled, but her smile faded as she felt something bad had happened that seemed to have broken her.

Then, Anko leaned off the wall and walked over to join Konan from her left side and looked into her Grandmother's eyes, followed by Rin, who got up from the couch, and walked over to be on Konan's right side and looked worried the most. Then, Konan gently shook Tsunade to snap her out of her trance. "Mom... Please look at us..." Konan said, her eyes showing worry, sadness, and pleading. Tsunade shifted her eyes, looking at Konan, Anko, and Rin, and then Tsunade pulled her family close and hugged them tightly. Konan, Anko, and Rin embraced Tsunade back, and Shizune looked on, showing a soft smile to see her family back once more. Then, Anko spotted Shizune next to her, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her into a group hug, which surprised her at first, but she quickly adapted and hugged her family once more. Naruto went over to Ino and Sakura, and he hugged his partner and sister. They hugged him back and hugged him tightly, showing how much they missed him. Then, Tsunade leaned away from her daughter and granddaughters and looked upon them with a soft smile, but still had sadness in her eyes. Then, Rin spoke up to break the silence. "Grandmother, I want you to meet a couple of girls," Rin said as this left Tsunade confused. Then, Rin left the hug, went past Tsunade and also went past confused Shizune, and Rin went over to the couch, gently grabbed her daughters' wrists, and made them stand up, and then Rin went behind them and turned to face Tsunade and Shizune. "Grandmother, Aunt Shizune... Meet, Ryoko and Asami... My adoptive daughters," Rin said with a proud smile on her face as Ryoko and Asami were a little shy to meet them, and then they shyly waved at them, but Ryoko was facing the wrong way which left Tsunade confused. "Is she okay?" Tsunade asked, and this caught Shizune, Naruto, and Jiraiya's attention. After a few seconds of silence, Rin spoke up, since she is Ryoko's mother. "We had some unwanted guests several days ago, and well... One of them took Ryoko's eyes..." Rin explained that Tsunade was looking at Rin, and then she looked back at Ryoko. Then she walked over to her, placed her hands on Ryoko, and flinched a little. "It's okay, Ryoko, it's just your Great-Grandmother," Tsunade said in a soft, hushed tone, wanting Ryoko to relax. Tsunade gently made Ryoko sit back down on the couch, and then Tsunade knelt to Ryoko's level. Ryoko felt relaxed, and then Asami sat back down and held her sister's hand, reassuring Ryoko that she is by her side. Then, Shizune came over and pulled out a storage scroll that had Tsunade's medical tools inside, and held it in her hand just in case Tsunade needed it. Then, Tsunade removed Ryoko's bandages while the rest watched, but as soon as Tsunade removed the bandages, Jiraiya, Naruto, and Shizune were all shocked to see empty eye sockets. Still, Tsunade wasn't fazed as she dealt with stuff like this before.
