"I heard you punched someone on the face earlier..."
You pursed your lips. "That's right..."
You and Hiccup were seated at a booth in nearby café located a few meters from your school to discuss about the project. He insisted you to come because "he was sorry".
You've broken my heart a lot of times now, Hiccup. I don't think I can trust you anymore...
"So," you said with a hard tone. "How's the project going since the day I didn't help?"
Hiccup cringed. "It was...awful," he admitted, and you felt triumphant.
He hadn't even added a single word to the project since he had accused you of lying to him about (e/n). The project had been forgotten.
"Mhm." You looked at Hiccup with a raised eybrow.
The waiter finally came with Hiccup's cappuccino and with your (f/d). You gave a penny as a tip because...why not?
A laptop was sitting in front of you, facing Hiccup. You didn't have yours because -oh, I don't know- it got burnt to the ground?
But you had borrowed a thick book from the library so all was well.
You opened the 900 paged book with great difficulty because of your thin arms as Hiccup opened the document where he had saved a few sentences of the project.
"Here you go," the waiter said, placing your orders on the wooden table. Hiccup had ordered hot chocolate, and you ordered (f/d).
"Thanks," you said with a smile, giving him a tip because you wanted to.
You turned back to the book and noticed Hiccup staring at you, making you raise your eyebrow. He seemed to be in deep thought.
You coughed, trying to get his attention.
He didn't respond and kept staring at you.
You roll your eyes and snap a finger in front of his face.
"Huh?" Hiccup blankly said, unaware of what happened.
"You were staring at me," you said with no hint of emotion at all.
His cheeks turned a bright shade of red, taking you by surprise. "Oh, sorry..."
He turned back to the computer and the two of you started to work.
"Here, type this in," you said, flipping the book before pushing it towards him.
As he typed away, your mind eventually spaced out about a certain subject that you couldn't get out of your head.
The portrait.
That one, specific portrait that was hung on the dusty walls of Anne's house.
It had been bugging your mind since yesterday.
Why did Anne even have that? And why does it have crosses on the faces?
Your brain worked out some possiblities and other stuff. The world was silent around you but your mind was buzzing with thoughts.
Then realization hit you like a brick.
The fire.
That picture.
It all adds up! The fire wasn't an accident, it was caused by no other than-
"(Y/n)? Are you alright?" Hiccup waved his hands in front of your face, a concerned look on his face. Bah, concerned? Since when did people show concern for you?
"(Y/n)? Hello?"
You blinked then shook your head. How ironic is this moment.
Then soon, an idea struck you.
Hiccup could help you investigate.
"Get up, now," you sternly said, grabbing the open book then slammed it shit before stuffing it into your backpack. Hiccup was very confused.
How cute.
"What?"
You saved the document then handed the laptop to Hiccup. "I need you to help me investigate."
You pulled him to his feet then walked out of the café, you pulling him with you.
"Woah woah woah woah, wait," Hiccup said, shaking his arm from your iron grip. You glared at him. "What are we doing? We haven't even been on this for five minutes!"
"We have two months for this. Right now, I need you to help me, Hiccup." You slowly said for you are nearly going to cry again.
But how many times are you going to cry?
This is not like you.
You've changed, and there's no turning back now.
You wiped away the stubborn tears that were forming at the corners of your eyes. "This is about my famil- don't you look at me like that!"
Hiccup's eyes widened. Earlier, he was looking at you with concern. He felt sorry for you. He knew the feeling of loosing a loved one, but you lost three of your loved ones, and he felt really bad.
"Come on," you tugged at his arm and began to walk to your h---Anne's house to start the investigation.
His arm felt like a twig, and you couldn't help but laugh at that.
"What are you laughing at?"
You smiled. "Nothing, fishbone."
He huffed. "Yeah, but I'm your fishbone."
