I found myself beaming at the sight before me. The moon had reached it's crescent, and the Harvest Festival had begun. The bright bonfire lit the night sky. Figures laughed and danced around it.

I had always enjoyed the Harvest Festival. It was a time of celebration for the blessings that we had been given. Not only for the crops, but for our lives.

I stood next to my friend, Tatia, as she stared at a young man. I squinted my eyes, trying to see who it was. Elijah Mikaelson. Of course, he was very handsome after all. I didn't see him like that, though.

"Go talk to him," I nudged her as I noticed he glanced over at her. She looked at me with uncertainty before standing up. I nodded my head reassuringly and watched as she walked towards him.

He seemed absolutely delighted by her approach. The two embraced before he asked her to dance. I envied the pair. They knew exactly what they wanted.

I was conflicted with my feelings at the moment. I had an interest in a certain person, but it would never work. There was no use in trying. I knew that my father would eventually arrange for a marriage, despite my wishes.

I tore my eyes from the couple, staring into the fire. It was gorgeous, but dangerous. Just like love. It was so appealing to the eye, but hot to the touch. If you weren't careful, you could fall victim to it and get burnt.

The log I had been inhabiting moved ever so slightly, but I didn't move. I didn't look to see who had sat down beside me. I could feel their eyes on me.

"You shouldn't look in the fire," he began. "It isn't too good for the eyes." I felt a smile tug on my lips. Speaking of conflicted feelings.

"Hello Niklaus," I turned towards the blonde. He was grinning from ear to ear. "Why aren't you out dancing? Surely you have your eye on someone."

"Oh I do," he confirmed, making me feel slightly jealous. I bet she's beautiful. "Although I'm not so sure that she is interested."

"She'd be lucky to have you," I assured him. "Any girl would be. You're kind, sweet, humble. You'd really make a girl proud."

"Do you really believe so?"

"I know so," I nodded. He once again stood to his feet. I looked up at him questioningly. "Where are you going?"

"I'm going to dance with the girl," he answered. I faked a smile as he walked away. I focused my attention down onto the ground. "Well then, are you coming or not?"

I looked up in confusion as he reproached. He held his hand out towards me. I hesitantly took it, letting him pull me to my feet. He laced his fingers with mine as he pulled me towards the other dancing couples.

"I'm the girl?" I said in disbelief. His hands found my waist, pulling me closer. His eyes locked with mine. I felt my heart skip a beat. I hadn't ever been this close to anyone in my entire life.

"You seem shocked."

"I am."

"Why?" He asked. "Can you not see it by the way I look at you. Can you not tell that I don't want to leave the clearings in the morning? Are you that oblivious to see just how beautiful you are?"

"I am many things, but I am not beautiful," I rolled my eyes at him. I once again found myself looking to the ground. He pressed his forehead against my own, causing me to look him in the face.

"You're right. You're not beautiful," he agreed. "You are gorgeous. Perfect in every way. Inside and out."

My face was burning a deep red by now. My heart was racing as we swayed to the music. The warmth of the fire was nothing compared to the warmth of his arms. It was like I was in Heaven.

"You said you were unsure if the girl reciprocated those feelings," I thought back to our previous conversation. "I'd like to inform you that she most certainly does."

"That's a relief," he sighed. "It's nice to know I haven't made a complete fool of myself."

"And how have you made a fool of yourself?"

"By falling for you."

"Then consider me a fool as well."

"Madeline?" A familiar voice called out. My eyes widened as I recognized my brother. I quickly pushed away from Niklaus. He looked hurt by my actions, but I knew how my brother would react.

"Hi Isaac," I greeted him innocently.

"What's the meaning of all of this?" He demanded furiously. He stepped closer to Nik, scaring me. I grabbed his arm, pulling him back.

"Stop it," I ordered him. "We were just dancing."

"Yes, well I don't appreciate your interactions with my sister," he snarled at Niklaus. I continued to pull on his arm, but he shoved me to the ground.

Niklaus was quick to step aside and help me to my feet. Although I appreciated the gesture, he shouldn't have done it. My brother really wasn't going to like that. Isaac pushed the boy away from me.

"Nik, we are friends," he stated. "But I draw the line when it comes to my sister. No one is good enough for her. Not even you."

"Isaac, you can't be serious," he frowned.

"Leave her alone or I will make you," he threatened.

"Isaac!" I scolded. "I will not let you dictate my life! Do I not get a say in what I want?"

"No, because you know better. You know that in a year or so you shall be married off. You are merely wasting your breath with this one."

"What if I were to marry her?"

"You," a new voice scoffed. I faced my father, who seemed to be amused. "Like my son said, you aren't good enough for Madeline. She shall wed a fine hunter. She deserves so much better than you."

"Father," I began, but he only gripped my arm harshly. I knew it would leave a bruise. He easily pulled me away from the boy. Tears brimming in our eyes.

A/N: Yay for an update!

Poor Nik and Madeline. I skipped ahead a bit, but I'm sure you could tell what their relationship was like at the beginning of the chapter. But if not, they were very close friends. She continued to sneak out and watch the two practice, and they grew closer.

Sorry if I didn't clarify that enough. Anyways, comment, vote, and follow! Love you all!
