And with that… life went on.

I got back into teaching, explaining to those parents I couldn’t remember my situation. Luckily things started to click faster than I expected and I was able to remember most of my old pupils. It was nice to start fitting back into my old life, but I didn’t let my new life go either. Things had definitely changed because of the accident. I didn’t take things for granted anymore, especially my relationship with Aston.

He was as busy as ever, recording and promoting new music. I made more of an effort to go to events with him, walking more red carpets than I had before and putting up with the paparazzi. It was just nice to spend time with him, no matter where we were or who we were with.

“Jess!!” Aston called, coming home from work late one evening.

“Piano!”

“Hey,” he said after a minute, sitting down next to me on the piano bench and pressing a kiss against my cheek.

“Hi! Have a good day?”

“It was productive.”
“Me too,” I grinned.

“How so?”

“I’ve finally remembered,” I told him, playing a few notes on the piano, “It only took a month, but I’ve got all the parts to my song.”

“Aww that’s great!” Aston grinned.

“It’s brilliant really, the song,” I told him, “I can’t believe I never realized…”

“What?”

“Remember when I told you it sounded familiar? When I found the recording of the first part?” I asked, referring to the night when we’d sat in the front room and watched the DVD my father had made.

“Sure, yeah…”

“It’s because it alludes to another song,” I told him, playing it out carefully, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”

“I hear it,” Aston grinned.

“It was here all along, the clue I needed. And it was so bloody obvious!”

“You found it in the end,” Aston said.

“I know…” I replied, “Just kind of makes me smile that it’s all linked together. It’s quite brilliant, and it totally reflects our whole relationship.”

“You gonna finish it, your song I mean?”

“Yeah,” I said, “I want to do a final part, sort of a grand finale. It’ll take the main theme and tie it all together.”

“Are you ever going to perform it?” he asked.

“Maybe someday,” I said, “I want to get it all written down and edit it a bit. There’s still a few bum notes in the first four parts, and now that I’ve realized the inspiration I want to go back and fix the fourth up a bit, tie it in more.”
