Paedyn

 He leaves me alone in the room, sitting in silence, a few minutes later Ellie comes back into the room, walks over to me, and starts brushing my hair.

"How did your meeting with the King go, Miss Gray?" she asked me as she worked through the knots I had let accumulate in my hair over the past several weeks.

"It went Ellie," I replied.

"Really? I would have thought that you would have been excited to see your fiance Miss Gray?" she asked me

"You have to swear to keep this to yourself, and then I have something important to tell you," I said to her.

"Of course Miss Gray, my loyalties is to you," she says to me

"For the millionth time call me Paedyn." I chuckled, and she nodded at me slowly before I continued. "I don't want to marry Kitt, I don't love him, and I'm not sure if he loves me or if he just wants to use or abuse me." I stopped her mouth seemed to drop.
"But Miss Gra-" she stops herself. "Paedyn, are you sure that you feel that way, you know you can't leave this engagement, I would try to learn to love him, or else you may find yourself unhappy for the rest of your life," she said to me and the words that she was saying would make perfect sense if it weren't for the fact that I had found a way out, well really Kai found a way out.

"Well what you don't see because I've kept it under wraps is that I'm in love with Kai, and he found a way out of this engagement, and the plan is working, everything is going to go down tomorrow. Then you will understand." I say her mouth drops open

"I thought royal betrothals are inevitable once put into place?"

"That's what I thought too, then I found out that there are three criteria that a woman must have to marry the king, and I found a way to make myself not fit one of those criteria," I say with a sly smile

She nodded slowly trying to understand what I was referring to. Before long the sun had set and it was late into the night. I prepared myself for bed, smiling to myself knowing what would come tomorrow then the end of my engagement to the king.

What felt like just moments later I woke up to the sun, shining through the window, I stretched my legs reaching as far up as I could. I look over and see Kai is just sitting in the corner.

"Well good morning Prince, what are you doing in here?"I ask him with a smile.

"Just came in here to think about you, us, the baby," he says quietly. I walk over to him taking his face in my hands. I could see his mask cracking something was bothering him.

"Kai, what's wrong?" I ask him, before I see him break he tries his best not to cry as he wraps his arms around me burying his face in my shoulder. He shook as he hugged me closer and tighter trying to keep himself from crying

"I'm scared," he mumbles he says as he tries to steady himself. "I'm scared I'm going to turn out like my father, treat this little one the same way he treated, me I'm scared that's what is going to happen because that's all I've known," he says his voice trembling.

"Malakai, look at me, our parents do not define us. We don't have to be like them, use your father as an example of what you don't want to be. Be the father that you always wanted for yourself to this child. Don't worry I'll keep you in check." I whisper into his ear as I hug him back his arms still wrapped around me, I play with his hair as I feel him calm down. Before long he pulls away and kisses me.

I gently smile at him. "So how's the little one doing this morning?" he asks me.

I gently laugh at him. "It's doing well, just making me constantly hungry, and feel sick to my stomach."I chuckle.

He puts his hand to my stomach resting his forehead on mine. "Y'know I never thought I'd be worthy enough to find love, much less have kids. But Pae, even though I feel like I'm still not worthy of you every single day. Slowly you're making me see that there is beauty in the little things, and every day every smile you give me, every little small gesture that shows me that you care. It makes me learn that maybe I am worthy, maybe I am more than the monster my father had created." He says looking straight into my eyes. I smile, I watch as every mask of his falls, he has finally learned to be himself.

I heard a knock on the door I quickly backed away from Kai. "Paedyn it's me, Ellie, I'm here to get you ready for dinner tonight." She said before starting to open the door. I looked to where Kai had been sitting seeing nothing but the chair that he had been sitting in. Remembering that was a veil, he used her ability to turn invisible and slip out of the room as she closed the door.

Hours go by Ellie pampers me cleaning the dirt and grime from under my nails, combing my hair, and curling it to frame my face. Then came the dress that was both dreadful and part of the plan. It was fitted to my old measurements, which included when I was not with child.

When she slid the dress onto me, it felt tight and was very obviously tight on my stomach.

"Well, that doesn't seem right, your appetite has been very minimal since you got here, gaining weight doesn't seem to make sense," she mumbles as she starts to try to fit the dress to my size. "Let's get this to fit you correctly before tonight," she says

"Wait don't it's perfect as is you'll see trust me," I say she looks at me in an odd fashion

"Are you sure Mis-Paedyn? The king may become very suspicious of you if he is to see you in this dress."

I chuckle in response to her question. "Well, Ellie you see that is the point," I replied with a sly smile.

A few hours later it is time for me to go down to the dinner hall. I walk down the hall trying to make the dress feel a little less tight. When I entered the hall there was an array of people that were at the last dinner I was forced to come to, but also several different faces, one of them being Calan. I watch as people stare at me and Kitt gives me an odd look when as his gaze travels down me.

I walk towards him taking my seat next to him. "Hello, Kitt how are you today?" I ask him

"I'm doing wonderful darling, and I'm doing even better now that I get to see you," he replies to me. As the dinner goes on throughout the night I notice how his gaze keeps dropping to my stomach. Good, the plan is starting to work. I kept on with the dinner trying to keep up with the jumble of voices around me, all but Kitt's I wanted him to drive himself mad all while he tried to figure out what I was keeping from him.

Hours passed and I was starting to think that this dinner would never end, then Kitt finally stood up tapping his fork against his wine glass.

"Everyone it has been a pleasure to sit and dine with you all tonight, but I need to speak with my Enforcer Kai, about some new information gained on some private subject matter. Paedyn, darling why don't you come with us so you can learn what these kinds of meetings will entail for you." He said turning to me.

Then he turned on his heel shooting Kai and I. We walked down the hall following him as as he stormed to his office.

When we enter the room he slams the door behind us.

"Kai, Paedyn, what we came here to discuss is the sudden gain of weight I have noticed from my lovely bride-to-be. The reason this is such a harsh topic is due to the fact that your maid has been informing me that you have barely been eating as is, so why the sudden and almost drastic gain in weight?"
