I'm sitting on my bed, reading on of the many baby books I have collected over the past few months. Then I heard a knock on the door. Standing up, I walk to the door, opening it, showing Kitt on the other side.

"Can we talk?" He asked me.

I gesture with my arm, reaching into the room and letting him enter.

"I assume your wife has told me about her offer and the ultimatum she gave me." He says. I nod. "Well, with much consideration, I think I am going to accept. I'm putting my brothers through another set of trials, and for what? Because I'm petty and wanted to hurt the girl who chose you over me. So I have decided to end the trials." He says.

I let out a big sigh. "And the other parts of her ultimatum?" I question.

"Yes, yes the ordinaries will stop being hunted, and your little family will be guaranteed safety," He says, waving his hand as though this option was not desirable.

"You act like those decisions are a burden," I question.

"To say I'm a little worried about how the elites may react to ordinaries being allowed to roam free and live their lives is an understatement. I fear they might start a riot in fear that the lies father fed them." He says, looking down. "So, I ask that you be there to be the mediator, as your duty as Enforcer. Keep the peace."

I nod at the proposal. "I also want to give the offer of someone to be my right hand, they don't have to accept but I want them to have the option."

"Who?"

"Makoto Khitan, he has abilities similar to my own and believe that he would be a great help."

"Alright, you have your right hand." He waves laughing. "So you're going to be a dad next month."

"Yep," I sigh, sitting down on the edge of my bed.

"Are you nervous?"

"Absolutely, I'm terrified I'm going to mess up somehow, mess them up, make them broken and with masks, like father did to me." I sighed, running my hands through my hair.

"You'll get through it, Kaipai," He chuckles. "And besides, you have Pae to be there with you every step of the way, and knowing you two, I doubt you will let each other wander off the beaten path."

I roll my eyes at the old nickname. "Yeah, I suppose you're right."

"Well, I better be going. announce that the trials have been canceled, permanently." HE says, making his way to the door.

"You know, this conversation doesn't make up for all that has happened."

"I know, but it's a start. I know we may never be what we once were, but I sure as I can try." He says with a half smile, before pushing the door open and making his way down the hall.

I sit there for a few minutes before Jax comes running into the room, flopping down on the bed next to me.

"Hey kid, what's up with you?" I ask

"Nothing much, just ran into Kitt, he apologized, said he's going to end the trials." He smiles from ear to ear.

"Yeah, I heard he came and talked to me about it too." I smiled, falling back onto the bed. "He's also going to stop the killing of ordinaries."

"Really?" he says, his eyes lighting up.

"Yeah, we're entering a whole new era of Ilyia. No more innocent lives lost, no more trials forcing teens to fight to their death."

"A whole new era of life." He smiles.

As we sit there and continue talking, Paedyn walks into the room with Adnena.

"Did you hear the news?!" Adena asks, jumping up and down in her usual fashion, clapping her hands.

"Yes, I did." I laugh at the antics of the difference of my wife and her best friend. How their friendship thrives as it does will always confuse me.

"Hey, A, do you mind we split for a little bit? I want to spend some time with my husband." She smiled as Adena pranced out of the room, no doubt to go find Mak somewhere. "Jax, that means you too, out," Paedyn says with a whitty smile.

Jax rolls his eyes before rolling himself off the of the bed, walking to the door and closing it behind him.

"So, we no longer have any threats left?" She asks.

"It seems so," I say hesitantly, taking her in my arms, breathing in the scent of her hair. "It just doesn't seem right, after all we have been through, constantly going, facing a new obstacle. It seems impossible that we will finally get to live in peace." I say

"Yeah, I know. But let's make the most of it before some new challenge comes." She said, her smile fading slightly.

"I'm going to ask Mak to be my right hand; that way, maybe he and Adena could stay at the palace if they want to," I say

"Really?"

"Yeah," is all I manage to say.

She smiled at the thought of Adena never having to leave her side.

"Then, do you think Kitt would mind if I brought Adena on as a permanent seamstress here?"

I laugh. "I don't think he has much choice, seeing as you are now his advisor." I chuckle.

She's laughing too, then her face changes to a grimace.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I ask, my voice filling with panic.

"Oh, it's nothin,g just the baby kicked me hard." She laughs. "Maybe we can finally catch a break."
