Chapter 17 : The Adventures of Kissing

“Well, well; what do we have here?”

Immediately, I knew who it was. I could recognize that voice anywhere.

“Mom!” I exclaimed.

“Franchesca. Would you introduce your dear mother to your friend?”

“What are you doing here?” I said, completely ignoring her question.

“As you know, I work. I have a pictorial for Prada. They called, and everybody knows that you can never turn them down. Now, who is this young man?”

“None of your business.”  My Mom’s ever elegant face hardened.

“Tell me before I call your father.”

“No.” Call me stubborn, but it runs in the family.

“Fine. I’ll have to call your father then.” She turned around, and started walking away. Where, I don’t know. I was too busy being shocked.

“That’s your mother?” Anthony said, shock evident in his voice.

“Yes. Say ‘hello’ to mother.” My voice was completely void of humor, it was cold, hard.

“Your mother is Vanessa Graham?” His eyes were wide, and he obviously was shocked, and didn’t bother to mask it. “The Vanessa Graham? As in, world-famous model?”

“Yes. Unfortunately.”

“Does that mean that your father is Hayden Hyde?” I nodded, not bothering to actually speak at all. “I thought they only had a son?”

“They do. Frank Hyde.” If possible, Anthony’s eyes widened even more.

Shit. Fuck. That’s what you meant by ‘unwanted’.” I nodded, again. “Everybody thinks that they have a son, but instead they have you. Is that why you got stuck in Connor Stanley?”

“Exact Domingo.”

“Wait, what? Franchesca is here?!” I heard Dad say from somewhere. All of a sudden, Anthony sat up straight, and took my hand in his.

“I got this covered, Chesca. Don’t you worry. You want to get your folks off? I’m more than happy to help.”

“Franchesca, what’s the meaning of this?” Dad said, gesturing between me and Anthony.

“Uh, Dad. This is, uh, Anthony. Anthony Wade.” Honestly, I sounded much more confident in my head. Anthony stood at the mentioning of his name, and let go of my hand in the process.

“Hello, Mr. Hyde. I’m Anthony Wade,” He said, sticking out his right hand. Lucky him, he wasn’t shaking like he was having a seizure.

“What do you think of my daughter?” Dad said, threating. No beating around the bush, just straight to the treats.

“All sticking up for me now, huh?” I blurted out, not being able to stop. Dad let go of Anthony’s hand, and shot me a hard glare. Immediately, I cringed. I had forgotten how hard they are.

“She’s fantastic, sir. Real winner. Beautiful, smart, and has a heart of gold. She’s amazing.” Anthony looked back at me, and I could have sworn I saw his eyes sparkling. But I knew better. Hidden underneath all that jazz, was a mischievous glint. Barely visible, but it was there, alright.
