Chapter 4

Akihiko just minded his own business and so did I. I organized my things and got ready for bed. I couldn't sleep, and I suddenly felt so restless.

I wonder what time it is. I've never been away with my family. It has only been a day and I'm already homesick--how can I survive? Maybe, I just need some air. Akihiko seems asleep. I need to be careful not to wake him up or else he'll be mad at me.

I slowly walked to the door and went out. It was dark and ran into someone.

Harumi: Aww...I'm so sorry I wasn't paying attention.

Yuu: Harumi...is that you? Why are you still up this late?

It was just Yuu. I became happy that I ran into him.

He makes me feel at ease.

Harumi: I just...um...couldn't sleep.

Yuu: It must be tough for you, huh? New place, new school and new people--and you are all by yourself. It's hard. I know. Harumi, don't hesitate to ask for my help, okay? I am here for you.

Harumi: Okay, I just need time to adjust.

He gave me another sweet smile. I didn't know why but it made me happy and erased my worries. I smiled back.

Yuu: How's Akihiko? Is he accommodating?

Harumi: Akihiko? I don't even know if I should share this to you...but...I think you are a good friend and I can trust you. Um...Akihiko is not very kind. He practically told me to just mind my own business and to not disturb him.

Yuu: Really? That's surprising. I thought he was nice. He is one of our model students and helps everyone. I guess it's all a front.

Harumi: Yea, I thought so too. He was annoyed that I was assigned to him.

Yuu: It's okay, at least, I am here for you. I think we should talk somewhere. We might be disturbing the other students, and it's really late. Um...do you mind staying in my room for a while?

Harumi: I don't mind.

Yuu caressed my head, and I lightened up. Coincidentally, Yuu's room was right next to mine and Akihiko. He turned on the lights and put away his things. His room was neat and tidy. Everything was organized just like Akihiko's side of the room.

Yuu: I don't have a roommate yet and they haven't assigned anyone for me to mentor. So, as of right now, I'm all alone here.

Harumi: Ah...um...Yuu, why are you up so late?

Yuu: I was practicing some magic and studying for the practical exams. I want to maintain my top one rank. I'm always tied with Akihiko. If I slip, he will take the top spot.

Harumi: You must be working really hard. Don't push yourself too much to the point that you'll get burnt out.

Yuu: I'm not. I always keep my feet on the ground, and I keep myself motivated. My goal is to be one of the best wizards.

Harumi: Um...Yuu...I think I'm disturbing you. You must be really tired. I'll leave now, so you can have some rest.

Yuu: No, no, I'm fine. Please stay. You can even sleep here if you want.

Harumi: Really? Is it okay with you?

Yuu: It's fine by me. It gets lonely here. You know...all by yourself. Don't you feel the same?

Harumi: Yea, I guess...

I laid on the other bed and forced myself to sleep. I couldn't. Yuu started stripping his dirty clothes and went to the bathroom. He went out and changed in front of me and wore a pair of comfortable loose pants. He was shirtless and showed his well defined body. Our eyes met, and I couldn't help myself but to blush. My face were burning up.

Yuu: Goodnight, Harumi.

Harumi: Goodnight, Yuu. Thanks for letting me stay.

Yuu: It's nothing.

Few minutes have already passed, and I still can't sleep.

Yuu: Hey...Harumi...are you still awake?

Harumi: Yea...I can't sleep. I usually sleep with my younger siblings. I'm not used to sleeping alone.

Yuu: Um...if you're okay with this...you can sleep next to me. My bed is big enough for the two of us.

I awkwardly walked to Yuu's bed and helped myself in. I avoided looking at Yuu.

Harumi: This...is...a little weird, huh?

Yuu: How so?

Harumi: I mean...we're both guys...and we're on the same bed...and we just met. Don't you find it a bit weird?

Yuu: No, not at all. Aren't we friends already? Friends usually do these kind of things if they feel scared, and they need someone to be there for them. It's a comforting feeling, right?

Harumi: I guess it's fine if you put it that way. I'm thinking way too much.

Yuu: You're so funny. Let's sleep, okay? Goodnight.

Harumi: Goodnight, Yuu.

I looked at Yuu and smiled.

Yuu is really nice. He's so welcoming and caring like an older brother. I don't know what it feels like to have an older brother since I'm the eldest child. I'm pretty sure it feels just like this. I may not be the best older brother but I treat my younger siblings with great care. It feels nice that someone is taking care of me for a change.

I started gaining consciousness, and I felt a reassuring warmth on my cheek. I yawned and slowly opened my eyes. I looked on my side and I saw Yuu intensively watching me.

Harumi: YUU! What are you doing?!

I was startled and I got up immediately.

Yuu: I was just watching you sleep. You look so adorable.

Yuu just made my heart beat faster. I was flustered. I gathered myself and wiped my drool. Yuu smiled and laughed at me.

Yuu: It's fine. Don't be shy.

I didn't know what else to say.

It just hit me that Akihiko might be looking for me. I suddenly got anxious.

Harumi: What time is it?

Yuu: Um...It's only 7:00AM.

Harumi: I have to go back to my room. Akihiko is probably looking for me even though he doesn't care. Why didn't you wake me up?

Yuu: You just looked so cute. You were sleeping like a baby. I didn't want to wake you up. Then, when I woke up, I started watching you sleep, and didn't notice the time.

Harumi: Don't say embarrassing things like that. Um...thanks for everything...I need to go. Akihiko might be awake already.

There was an immediate heat throughout my body. Yuu made me shy and a bit angry, when he said those playful words. I made my bed and thanked Yuu, and then I left.
