After Odd had helped me clean myself up just enough to be presentable in public, we headed back to his dorm room, where we're currently just lounging around, conversing about whatever comes to mind.
"(Y/n), I trust you have good taste in music?"
I look up from rubbing Kiwi's belly and shrug. "I'd like to think so. Why do you ask?"
"Oh, ya know~." He grins from ear to ear. "I dabble in creating music myself, wanna hear a song I made? It's called Break, Break, Break Dance~!"
I giggle at how excited he is. "Sure, go right ahead."
Odd springs off his bed and rushes to his drawers to find something to play it on. "Oh, wait until you hear it! I have a feeling you're going to love it!"
Just as he digs out his CD player, the door swings open in an instant, startling us both.
"Odd! Why haven't you been answering your phone?" Jeremie looks over at me and pauses, choosing his next words carefully. "The others and I need you to. . . help finish our project."
"O-Oh! Yeah, sure thing, Jeremie!" Odd stands up and gestures to me. "I just have to do something real quick, and I'll meet you all there."
Jeremie nods and rushes out of the room, almost slamming the door behind him.
"Sorry that I have to end this so suddenly, (Y/n)." He apologizes and helps me off his bed. "Promise to make it up to you?"
"No worries. I'll just lounge around in the Wreck Room while you go fight Xana."
My heart skips a beat the moment I realize what words slip out of my mouth. . . I should really start thinking about what I say before I speak aloud.
Odd cautiously takes a step back and raises his fist. I panic and take a few steps back as well, knowing he might think of me as a Polymorphic Spectre.
"Wait, wait, Odd!" I shield my face and back myself into the corner of the room, sliding down the wall. "I know this looks bad, but I swear I'm not a Spectre!"
"Yeah, right, Xana!" Odd scoffs. "You have to do better than that to trick someone as great as me!"
"I won't attack you! I-I'm too weak to do anything like that anyway. . ." He lowers his fist but keeps an even distance apart. "Just go to the factory and deactivate the tower! That'll prove I'm telling the truth!"
Odd stares at me, sending a series of chills down my spine. Why does this dream have to feel so real? It's doing a great job of taking my favorite character turn against me.
"Fine." He reaches down and grabs my hand, pulling up and off the ground. "But you're coming with me, okay? I don't need you terrorizing anyone here while I'm not around."
"That's perfectly fine!" I nervously agree as I follow him out of the room. As humiliating as it was that that convinced him, I am utterly relieved in the end.
The ride down to the Supercomputer was filled to the brim with tension so thick; one could cut it with a knife. Though, maybe the feeling was only one-side? Odd didn't look nervous or afraid of the fact that I could possibly attack him at any given moment, even though I genuinely can't. Or. . . Maybe he actually believes in what I said? It's certainly a risk for him, a huge one at that, but I can't help but feel uneasy about the whole thing.
As the doors slowly slide open to reveal the Supercomputer, the feeling only grows worse inside the pit of my stomach. I tug at the hem of my shirt as Odd walks me over to Jeremie. He taps his friend's shoulders only for him to spin around in his chair and almost fall out of it.
