"Phew! That was a close one. You almost became a nugget for that dino." Came a voice as a mass of blue, yellow, orange and red came into view from the darkness. It appeared to be humanoid in shape as you could easily see a head with two dots and a smiling mouth on the head adorned with a comically small top hat.
"Hiya there, pal! Glad to see you're still with us! I'm Doey. I was told to expect you." The creature called Doey said as he quickly walked up to you before taking off his hat and tipping it to you. You were at a loss for words however, but the silence was broken when Dogday called from above, "Doey!"
As Doey looked up, you could see a look of shock grow onto his face as he saw everyone peaking out of the broken window. "Dogday... You're alive..." He said as the others began to come down to where you were. Pretty quickly, Doey questioned why Catnap was present, but you and Dogday were able to catch him up on what had happened in Playcare.
He appeared to take a deep breath as he said, "Well. I am glad that you're still alive. And if you can trust Catnap with the help of the Angel here... then... I suppose I can trust you. But I'm going to be keeping an eye on him." You and the others agreed to the idea, with Catnap simply looking away. "For now. We should get to the Safe Haven to patch all of you up." Doey said as he looked the others up and down.
He then grew more cheerful as he said, "Follow me!" And walked in another direction, leaving his head in place before snapping it back to his body with an almost cartoonish flare. You then watched as he squeezed himself through a gap in the wall before noticing the doorway above it. "Before we move on, I just have to ask now... How do you know Doey, Dogday?" You said as you turned to the Critter.
"Well... after the Hour of Joy. Some of us Smiling Critters retreated to the Prison, meeting up with Doey in hopes of resisting the Prototype. Of course, we still had to venture about to scrounge for food. I would mostly lead these expeditions when they headed into Playcare. But one day... we were... caught off guard." Dogday explained, looking down at Catnap, who lowered his head in shame. "It's alright. You don't need to explain any more. Let's just catch up with Doey." You said as the group once again began moving forward.
Heading into another door filled and barricaded hallway, Doey quickly poked his head out from around a corner, catching your attention and leading you on. You also looked into some of the rooms, quickly noticing the desk on the other side of a one-way mirror. "Interrogation Rooms. They'd question us here after watching us. Those of us who could speak at all. I always answered." Doey explained in a solemn tone before saying, "But I never gave em' an answer they liked."
He then giggled as you continued to investigate while moving about the different rooms. Finding a tape on one of the shelves, you soon found a corresponding monitor and placed the tape labeled 'Theater Incident' in it. The footage seemed to be from an older type of portable video camera as you could see people in hazmat-like suits walking about. They were walking about a burnt and destroyed theater, using their grab packs to move rubble, looking around for things.
"Got another one over here!" Came a male voice as the camera looked to someone who'd just uncovered a smoldering corpse. "Jeez... Hard to imagine how the company will tuck all this under the rug." The one seemingly holding the camera said. Another voice came from off-screen, saying, "Not our problem."
Another worker then alerted the others to another three corpses as the cameraman asked, "How many is that now?" The woman from earlier then counted, "Fifty-eight, so far." "Another over here!" Someone else shouted. The woman sighed as she then said, "Fifty-nine." "Where's that investigator? Campbell, Lockehart-- whatever his name is." The cameraman questioned.
"Poking around somewhere. Don't know." The woman said as she went back to moving debris, "You ask me, the culprit's obvious. Just needs to be spelled out plain and simple for the bigwigs." "You think?" "Yeah. Rotten eggs from rotten chickens, ya know? Can't get more rotten a chicken than him."
