Me: Ashton, we need to talk

Ashton: You're right about that. Can I come over?

Me: I'll meet you at the playground

I lock my phone, not waiting for his reply. I take a look at myself in my mirror, taking a deep breath.

"I got this" trying my best to fill myself with more confidence. I smooth out my outfit taking one more deep breath before heading out my door.

I walk quickly to the playground, the anticipation killing me. I get there early, taking a seat on the swing, gently pushing myself back and forth.

"Need some help?" I hear a voice say behind me. I turn my head quickly, expecting to see Ash's smiling face but I'm surprised to see Luke

"No, I'm good" I say, cringing at my awkwardness. He takes a seat on the swing beside me. We sit there for a little while in silence, but it puts me at ease

"Hey babe?" Luke murmurs, grabbing my head. I stop swinging at look him in the eye reluctantly

"Yeah?" I mumble

"Do you want to talk?" He asks me. I shake my head immediately

"Actually Luke, I just really need to be alone right now" I say, it coming out colder than I intended. But I can't have him here when Ashton comes

I hear him sigh loudly "Just know I'm here for you babe" He reassures. I watch his tall body walk away through my eyelashes

I sit there in silence waiting for Ashton to come. I check my phone and my heart races when I see his text, but sinks when I realize it was from before

Ashton: I'll be right over. Might be a little while, have to drive

I furrow my eyebrows, why did he need to drive?

Me: Why do you have to drive?

I wait patiently for his reply or his car to pull up. Five minutes, ten, twenty and before I know it, it had been an hour

"Ashton, where are you?" I whisper to myself. I shake my head, I can't believe he bailed on me. I get up and sigh loudly, heading to Luke's house.

I knock gently on the door, waiting patiently for someone to open it. It's not long before Luke's mom, Liz, opens the door.

"Hi sweetie, are you looking for Luke?" She asks me, clearly concerned. I nod my head, not able to speak

"Luke!" She calls out "Thia's here to see you"

"Tell her to come upstairs!" Luke yells back from upstairs

"He must be in his room, you know where it is right?" She asks. I just nod my head, mumbling a thanks while heading to Luke's room.

"Hey" I greet, opening the door. Luke's sitting on his bed with his laptop on his lap. He smiles, patting the spot beside him. I take a seat next to him, leaning my head on his shoulder. He closes his laptop, which was streaming How I Met Your Mother and put's his arm around me as we sit in silence.

"You ready to talk?" Luke asks me. I nod, pulling back from our embrace, facing him.

"This is a long story, and I don't want you interupting me, ok?" I ask him and he nods.

I recount the story of me and Ash, including my diary, my childhood memories with him and his recent confession to me.

"Wait, I know you said no interupting but Ash told you he loves you!?" Luke exclaims. I nod in reply "No wonder he suddenly got so awkward around me" He mumbles to himself "Ok, sorry, contiue"

I finish the story by telling him about how I was ready to talk to Ash and he blew me off and never came.

"Oh Thia" Luke mumbles when I'm finished, enveloping me in a hug. I hug back tightly "I'm sure he has a good reason" He whispers

And it turns out Ashton had a very good reason.
