You decide to stay put and hope that another bus will come.

The sky is getting darker, and a few stars are starting to shine brightly against the grey gloom. More cars drive past, not giving you the slightest bit of notice. A crowd of people on their way home from work amble by - but no buses.

You begin to worry, nibbling at a loose piece of hangnail. Where is the bus?

At around seven-thirty a rickety old coach rolls up to the depot. It rained a half-hour prior so you're drenched, cold, and miserable. You bundle yourself onto the bus and flop down in a seat. There are no other passengers except for you, a small gaggle of teenage boys, and a sad looking old lady sitting near the back. The bus revs up its engine and drives off down the road.

You arrive home very late. Your mother flings the door open and starts screaming at you. For once you can't be bothered to listen. You trudge upstairs to your bedroom, leaving a trail of water behind you.

It's been a miserable evening, but at least now you can get some shuteye.
