Sing

And when the sun hides behind the clouds

Follow it in

Never lose the light

Or you’ll lose sight

Of the music

That courses through your veins

E P I L O G U E

‘Well time did pass

And I lay with you

In the deep green grass

Hiding from everyone

And singing this song

I gaze at you

Singing this song

Looking at the boy who

Knew

Who understood

Well I can’t say

I didn’t notice

But yesterday

You didn’t run away

And singing this song

I gaze at you

Singing this song

Looking at the boy who

Knew

Who understood’

My last note faded out, and Jess smiled at me from his table near the stage, and I grinned back. Then I got up from my seat, picking up my acoustic guitar, and walked back behind the curtain, waiting for the applause to fade out.

I waited until I heard the last of the people leave the room, and then I went back out, ran down the stairs, and into Jess’ arms.

It was my first time playing in public, the third time Jess had ever heard me sing. It wasn’t a major concert, just a casual set up in a room above the pub, but I enjoyed it, and by some miracle, so did the audience.

I gave him a quick kiss before I ran out the door, dragging him behind me by the hand, laughing wildly.

This was my life.

And I loved it, because whatever happened, I knew that I’d always have Jess.
