Chapter 44- On the road again

~Rick's P.O.V~

We got out, because of Carol. I felt pretty stupid letting her go like that. But she understood, and she survived. And if it wasn't for her and Tyreese Judith wouldn't be alive. I wouldn't be holding her. But I also felt for Haley. Her ankle was swollen and we needed to find a place to settle. Expecially for her. We couldn't lose someone else. I wasn't going to let that happen. We continued on the road before taking a break. I walked over to Carol and once again thanked her

"The girls were with us" She softly said with eyes fill of sorrow

"Lizzie and-" I asked but I stopped when she nodded her head

"They were about to kill Judith. They we sick" Carol said with tears emerging but she held them back

I nodded my head and placed my hand on her shoulder "You did the right thing"

I walked over to Haley as she was sitting down. I bend down to her height

"How are you feeling?"

She winced as she touched it "Still pretty swollen"

"We're gonna find a safe place, I promise" I said

She looked at me "Rick, there's no more safe places anymore. No matter what we find, we're gonna be running for the rest of our lives"

I looked at her for awhile before nodding and standing up. She is right, we had the prison. And we thought that was our home for the rest of time. But we were wrong, we're not gonna have a permanent home, ever again. Because there's always someone that gets in the way. We continued moving along after a good 5 minute break. We spotted a couple walkers ahead but we stayed together and kept our eyes and ears open. We were tired, but we kept going, kept walking. Later that night we made camp and situated ourselves. I approached Carol

"I owe you everything"

She shook her head "You owe Tyreese. He was at the prison"

I nodded "You got back there"

She looked down and took out something from the pouch, it was a watch "It was in one of their storerooms"

"I saw them kill him" I said taking the watch "The kid" I looked at the watch before raising it back up to her. Gesturing for her to have it back

"Mm-mmm" She shook her head

"I still don't know about what you did. But I know you knew some thing I didn't. I sent you away to this-"

"You said I could survive. You were right"

I nodded and chuckled "I sent you away to this and now we're joining you" I knew what I did was wrong, I should've never sent here away "Will you have us?"

She nodded slowly

"Thank you" I said before walking away

~Haley's P.O.V~

After we situated ourselves around the fire I winced when I moved my ankle. Daryl kissed my forehead and I smiled slightly, I loved it when he did that. Made me see how much he cares. I saw Carol sitting a couple feet away and noticed Daryl looked over at her

"Go ahead" I said gesturing to her

"You sure?" He asked

I chuckled "Yea, go"

He squeezed my hand before standing up and walking over to her. I stared into the dirt and saw the fire in a slight distance. I felt someone sit next to me and I turned to see Maggie

"Hey" I said

"Hey. How are you feeling?" She asked

I shrugged my shoulders "I've been worse"

"You know you don't have to be little miss tough girl. Your ankle is seriously injured, yet your still walking all of this"

I scoffed "Yea. To be honest I would rather have my arm broken then my ankle"

"We're going to find a place" Maggie said

"You know everyone keeps saying that like there's a prison we could take over next door" I said looking foward

"We may not find a place like the prison, but we will find a place. Somewhere safe. What happened to your ankle I'm so sorry. That shouldn't have happened to you. I'm sorry Hales"

"Look Maggie I appreciate it but I don't need your sympathy. I'm fine, so why don't you just leave me alone" I stood up and wobbled away

I sat down a few feet on a rock away from the fire. I instantly felt bad. Why would I say something like that to her? I'm such an idiot. But it was kinda true, everyone was giving me sympathy that I didn't need. Telling me how sorry they are for me with my ankle. And how they feel bad. It wasn't there fault, none of it is. I heard a small rustle in front of me and I jerked my head up. I tried to look in the dark through the woods but I couldn't. I stood up and hopped foward a couple steps to see if maybe I could see anyone. I was about to walk more when I felt a couple hands on my shoulder. I jumped so high up as I turned

"You scared me" I said putting my hand on my chest

"What are you doing over here?" Daryl asked

I sighed "I've been feeling broody lately, and I kinda took it out on Maggie"

He sighed "Hales"

"I know she didn't deserve it but I was fed up"

"Okay, you can fix that later but right now you need to sit down" He said as he helped me limp back go the fire place where everyone was surrounding

I looked up at Maggie and she didn't look happy. Her eyes pierced mine then she looked away. The guilt just few over me. I couldn't believe I said that to her.

"I will keep first watch" Rick said standing up

"Me too" Daryl said as he stood up

Everyone nodded and laid down one by one. Daryl kissed me on the head and whispered in my ear

"Get some sleep baby"

Chills ran down my spine as he said those words. I looked at him and nodded. He walked away with Rick and sat somewhere nearby. Man I love that man. I laid down and closed my eyes. But I didn't really sleep. Now a days it's hard to sleep in this world we live in.
