I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face as Allie and I walked out to the bus. I was holding her left hand tightly, my thumb playing with the diamond on her finger. Pete and Joe were walking ahead of us, giving us the space we wanted to talk privately. I looked down at Allie to find her smiling to herself as she looked down at our hands. I leaned over while we walked, kissing the top of her head. "You look so beautiful tonight," I whispered, smiling as he looked up at me. She blushed and squeezed my hand. "You know I'm taking you to dinner?"
"What?" Allie gasped, stopping for a moment. I chuckled and tugged her along towards the bus. "Where are we going?"
"You'll see," I laughed, "Our parents are meeting us there." Allie smiled even wider at that, pressing closer to my side as I let go of her hand and draped my arm around her shoulders. She held her hand up, looking at her ring and twisting it around her finger. "How'd I do?" I asked, nodding down at her hand.
She bit her lip as she looked back up at me. "It's perfect, 'Trick."
"Good," I said, grinning to myself. When we reached the bus, I helped Allie step up, a smirk finding its way to my lips as I heard her scream excitedly. I stepped onto the bus behind her, and saw her hugging her best friend like they haven't seen each other in years. Pete was in the back, laughing at them from the doorway. As I walked up behind Allie, Sara squealed and let her go to latch onto me, hugging me tightly around my waist. I laughed and hugged her back, smiling over her shoulder at my fiancée.
Wow. My fiancée. Allie Fisk is my fiancée.
"I'm so happy for you guys!" Sara squealed, finally letting go of me to rush back to Allie, grabbing her hand. "Let me see the ring! Let me see!!" She shouted, immediately going silent as he jaw dropped at the sight of the engagement ring. "Oh my God, Patrick," she whined, looking up at me and holding her hand over her heart. "It's so beautiful!" Allie glanced at me and giggled at Sara's reaction, earning herself another hug from her best friend.
I laughed and thanked her, then slipped past them to take a quick shower before we left for dinner. When I was finished, I walked back out to the bunks to get dressed. Pete was lying in his bunk, and leaned over the side when he heard me walk in. "Hey," he said, reaching out for a high-five. "Congratulations, Pattycakes."
I laughed and shook my head at him. "Thanks Pete," I said, grabbing my clothes before I retreated back to the bathroom to put them on. When I finally rejoined Allie and Sara in the front lounge, Allie quickly jumped to her feet and ran to me, reaching up to place a sweet kiss to lips. "Ready to go?" I asked, unable to control the way I kept smiling at her. She nodded, smiling as well, and said goodbye too Sara, who was going out with Pete, Joe, and Andy later for dinner.
As soon as we were off the bus and alone, Allie stopped and pulled me to her, crashing her lips to mine as if she hadn't seen me in years. When she pulled away, she grinned. "I've wanted to do that all night," she whispered, moving her left hand up to touch my face.
I felt the cold band of her ring against my cheek and smiled, reaching up my own hand to hold hers there. "I love you so much, Allie," I whispered, leaning in to kiss her again. She mumbled against my lips that she loved me back, and after a long moment of just standing there, kissing each other, we finally started walking down the road.
The restaurant was just down the street from the venue, so we didn't have far to go. I held open the door for Allie, and smiled as she was nearly assaulted by her own parents as she walked in. I followed, and my mother did the same to me, all four of our parents absolutely gushing over us and our engagement. When we finally made it to our table, a large circular one in the back of the dining room, I pulled out Allie's chair for her then sat down beside her. As we all sat down, Allie's mother reached for her daughter's hand again to admire the ring.
"Oh, sweetheart," she cooed, looking up at both of us, "It's beautiful. I still can't believe you two found each other again."
"I'm glad we did," I said, smiling down at Allie. She blushed and reached for my hand under the table.
"So tell us," My mother chimed in, "How did it happen?"
Allie and I sighed and began to recount the story of how I found her at my concert. The entire time, I couldn't stop myself from glancing at her. She glanced back at me every time, and I knew she felt the same way I did. I just couldn't contain the excitement that merely a few hours ago, this woman had agreed to be my wife.
Two hours later, we had finally finished dinner and were walking out of the restaurant between our parents. We said our goodbyes to my parents first. My mother gushed for a moment over the two of us, giving us hugs and kisses about three times over, and then my father hugged us both and made us promise to visit when the tour ended. Then, it was time for Allie's parents. Her mother hugged us both in turn, nearly squeezing the life out of me when she did. While she had me trapped, she took the chance to whisper in my ear. "You make her so happy," she whispered, kissing my cheek, "I'm so proud of you both." I beamed at her as she pulled away, then looked to see Allie wrapped up in her father's arms. When he let her go, he looked at me rather seriously and held out his hand. I smiled nervously and shook it, mustering up the courage to look the man right in the eyes.
He grinned at me, knowing how nervous I was, and nodded his head. "I know you'll take good care of my daughter, Mr. Stump," he said to me. I nodded quickly, and Allie rolled her eyes.
"Dad," she whined, drawing out the word like a little kid. She was adorable.
Her father chuckled at her and pulled her into one more hug, and then they were on their way. I reached for her hand immediately, and we began our walk back to the bus. We were quiet all the way there, but it was a comfortable silence. It was one of the things I liked most about our relationship; The fact that we could be this comfortable with each other. We could simply be together and not say a word for hours and be perfectly happy. No one was trying to constantly impress the other, and no one was trying too hard. We were simply comfortable.
When we reached the bus, we were greeted with a note taped to the door. I pulled it off to read, "We'll be out late, so you guys have the bus to yourselves. You owe me. -Pete." I laughed and showed the note to Allie, shaking my head as I pulled her onto the bus with me. She laughed as well, dropping the note onto the table as she followed me to the bunks.
We climbed into our bunk and I reached for my laptop. "Movie?" I asked Allie as she curled herself beneath my arm. She nodded, so I turned on Ghostbusters and set the laptop by our feet. I knew we weren't going to actually watch it, but it was worth a shot. I settled back against the wall behind me and pulled Allie close, dropping a kiss to the top of her head. She looked up at me to press her lips to my jawline.
"I love you, 'Trick," she whispered. I looked back at her and she was smiling, her eyes sparkling in the dim light of the bus.
"I love you too, Allie," I whispered back, leaning towards her. She sat up to close the distance between us, capturing my lips with hers. I gently rolled her onto her back, wasting no time in kissing my way down her neck. She sighed beneath me and rolled her hips upward, into mine. I growled against her skin, leaving a small bite mark near her collarbone. I relished in the fact that I would get to do this to her for the rest of our lives. I would be the only one to draw such noises from her, and the only one to hold her close like this. She was going to be my wife...my Mrs. Stump. And I was going to spend every waking moment of our lives together making her the happiest woman on Earth. It hurt, how much I loved her. It physically hurt. Like right now, as I gazed down into her eyes while we made love that night, there was a dull ache in my chest. A dull ache that came from the frantic hammering of my heart as it threatened to pound its way right out of my chest. That's what she did to me. I could only hope that I did the same for her.
