The Kingpin (Part 2)

Skye

"Yes, you really think I should?" The man asked, eyeing Zayne.

"Of course. You won't regret it." I said, holding Zayne's hand tightly.

"Just because you recommend it so highly, I'll give it a try." He said, handing me a business card and walking away with his wife on his arm.

"See you already got one aspect of this down. Make connections." Zayne whispered into my ear, "Shit, you'll do great running Easton if you have too."

I shivered, running Easton meant Zayne dying. I didn't want her to die so running Easton would be a nightmare. Not a dream. I loved Zayne too much for her to ever to die and me be okay with it.

"Or maybe you can help me run it." Zayne whispered, kissing my cheek and leading me to the next couple.

She had another beer bottle in her hand while Tubby & Rio were also talking trying to help Zayne make connections but they didn't seem to be having any luck. Montana was too transfixed on his date to talk to anyone else. Banks was hitting on every girl he saw that wasn't entwined with another man or girl. Fi was talking with her date but she was trying to make connections also. I couldn't tell how much success she was having.

The man who stood in front of me looked oddly familiar. He had a fade haircut with cinnamon colored skin and a crooked grin.

Why did I know this man?

I stood on the side of Zayne as we approached the man. He stood by himself, drinking champagne and observing everyone around him.

"Hello." Zayne said, starting the conversation.

"Waddup?" He said, looking over at us. He looked at me before gasping, "Skylander?"

I looked at him funny. Not many people knew my real name. "Who are you?"

"You don't remember me?" He said, "I'm your mom's brother."

"What?" I asked, suddenly very confused.

"Skylar Jean Kensington." He said, "That's your mother isn't it?"

I nodded, as Zayne looked between us two.

"I'm Davis Marc Kensington. Her older brother. I saw you when you were little a few times before the tragedy." He said.

"Why didn't you get me if you're my uncle?" I asked, suddenly angry.

"Don't make a scene, Skye." Zayne said.

"I was in the drug business. Why do you think I'm here?" He asked, "I don't have no good job, how was I go get you?"

I shrugged, letting go of Zayne's hand and walking towards the table with our names on it. I sat in the chair that had my name in front of it, and took a shot of vodka from the caterer passing by.

Zayne came a second later and sat next to me. She sat the card in front of me. It said Marky Dee with a phone number. I could only assume this was my "uncles" card.

"Do you want to do business with him or not?" Zayne asked, "You my partner and if you don't wanna fuck wit him then I won't."

"Yeah go ahead. I've heard of Marky Dee.. I didn't know he was my uncle but I've heard good things about him." I said, remembering all those times drug dealers and thugs talked about him while I danced on them.

After an hour more of giving business cards and receiving business cards, Big Boss asked us to find our seats. Each table was filled with a Kingpin and their "crew" or independent drug dealers and weapon cartel.
I sat next to Rio and Zayne but I felt Marky Dee staring at my face. I was growing frustrated with the feel of his eyes burning into my skull.
