Chapter 21:

I raised an eyebrow at the strangely familiar man currently using his shirt to wipe hot porridge from his face. A small giggle erupted past my lips as a particular glob of the sticky substance seemed to glue one of his eyes shut. Even though he was in a sour mood, I couldn't help but catch the slight upturn of his lips hearing me giggle at him. Perhaps I would then be forgiven for giving Nyx the chance he needed to get the hell out of here then when the man had come back with my food.

~Flashback 15 minutes ago~

My mind was still reeling from Nyx's kiss when the man had come back in the room carrying a tray of food, his eyes focusing solely on me with what looked like guilt glinting in them. Why was he looking at me that way?

Shaking my head, I glanced in Nyx's direction and gave him a slight nod before I jumped out of the bed and silently apologized the man bringing me the food before I popped my hand up under the tray causing rice porridge and bacon to fly all over him. At the sound of a ceramic bowl breaking upon impact with the wooden floors the door swung open and the guard outside it had rushed in allowing Nyx to then shove him hard into the man wearing the remains of what would have undoubtedly been a delicious breakfast. As they both crumbled to the ground, Nyx fled the room, looking at me one final time with what seemed to be a burning promise in his eyes.

I had gazed out the empty doorway after Nyx for several minutes before I had even noticed the hulking figure of a man covered in sweet smelling goo. Once I remembered him, I knew I was probably in deep trouble, however when I had looked up he hadn't seemed to be all that angry Nyx was gone. No, his gaze was fixed solely upon my no doubt downhearted expression while rice porridge rolled down his left cheek.

~End flashback~

Seeing his lips twitch into a slight smile, I couldn't help but giggle again – something I found strange as I had never been the giggling type before. My eyebrows furrowed a moment; was I losing my mind simply because I was going to be forced into some kind of relationship? Or maybe Nyx's sudden display of affection had fried my brain cells.

Yeah, that sounded more like it. Sudden kissing with Nyx was obviously something I was allergic to. I would have to note that for the future and keep our lips separated.

Filing that away, I turned my attention to the shirtless sex god- Wait! When the hell did he take his shirt off?!

"Just a few seconds ago, why, like what you see?"

I blinked a moment. "E-excuse me?"

The man's face seemed to fall a moment, his eyes darkening as though sadness was creeping into him.

"Never mind. Do you want something else to eat?"

For a moment my eyes roamed the man's naked chest, my inner beast rubbing across my skin as a playful growl rolled up my chest and passed my lips. Heat flushed my cheeks as I snapped my gaze away from him and to the floor where bacon was scattered here and there.

Attempting to distract myself from my previous action towards a complete stranger, let alone an enemy since he was being my keeper for the moment, I stood up again and went to pick all the bacon up off the floor. I could feel his eyes burning holes into my skin as I picked up behind him, my eyes strictly on bacon watch. As I reached down to pick up another piece, my eyes checked under the bed I had woken up on to find that somehow a piece of the bowl had slid underneath it – probably during Nyx's escape.

Taking a bite of one of the pieces of bacon I had gotten from the floor despite the disturbed expression of the man – God I was getting tired of calling him 'man'. What the hell was his name?

Chewing, I dropped the rest of the bacon on the bed spread and got down on my knees and attempted to reach under the bed. Just as my fingers wrapped around the piece of shattered bowl, a soft whine caught be off guard and my finger sliced along the broken edge causing me to jerk backwards and fall right against legs that had not originally been that close.

Glancing upwards, I found myself looking at a somewhat upside down face that peered back at me with an odd expression.

"Well hi there..."

A blush spread along my cheeks as I said screw it to the broken piece of bowl and scrambled onto the bed. Grabbing another piece of bacon I quickly shoved it into my mouth.

The man chuckled then, my eyes flickering to his face as he stared at me with a goofy grin on his face.

"I guess I will add bacon to the list of things you like."

Swallowing my mouthful, I smiled. "I suppose, but why bother? Do you belong to this pack? Are you a warrior or something...? Nah... can't be a warrior... You also don't smell like the old lady that comes to see me. Are you on the council?"

I don't know what it was with this guy but for some I couldn't help but feel slightly bubbly at the moment. Maybe it was because I was supposed to become luna and some shit so I have those horrible instincts to make all my pack mates happy. The smile fell from my face at this thought. These people weren't my pack mates. I was not a luna. This was unacceptable behavior.
