Chapter 19- In which she goes on the ride of her life..In an ambulance

~~~Paramedic's POV~~~
It had been a little past eleven and my partner and I were sitting at the hospital we had just brung a fire survivor to the hospital. The father didn't make it but the daughter did, the mother was out of town and notified immediately upon arrival. A few minutes later we had gotten a call in, the officer on the phone told us they had received a call by a frantic young girl saying there was a girl at a party who just got hit by a car and everyone around heard a sickening crunch. I immediately went to the ambulance and got everyone I needed together, we had a life to save. The address was 723 Maple Avenue, and thankfully it wasn't too far away from us.
It took us several minutes to arrive, we arrived just before the police. My coworker and I rushed out the door with the gurney ready for the worst. It looked pretty bad at first sight but then again I've seen worse. The ambulance lights flashed on a boy whom was sitting next to her holding her hand and begging her to wake up, it must be his girlfriend or his best friend; they look too different to be related. I could see the tear stains on his face as I got closer, I put my hand on his shoulder and squeezed reassuringly he looked up at me and gave me a broken smile he stood up and stepped a few feet away but kept a close eye on her as we carefully lifted her up and onto the gurney we strapped her down with the leather straps to secure her and then my co worker helped me lift her into the ambulance. I hopped up inside and sat beside her, holding her hand. She looked so young, the police would arrive soon and hopefully they can find out who did a hit and run to this poor girl.
The only sad thing is unless a witness can identify the hit and run driver in a line up and are willing to appear in court if necessary,the case would then be assigned to a detective for investigation.
Technically criminal prosecution requires a positive identification of the driver of the hit and run vehicle. Although in other cases the license number is used to identify the registered owner of the vehicle, it can not be used alone for criminal prosecution without a witness who can positively identify the driver. Just in case a family member used someone else's car that wouldn't work.
The driver of the ambulance closed the doors and ran back to his seat, he started the vehicle and I hooked up and IV into the girls arm. "What did the call say?" I asked hoping we could get a little more information. "Only that a car had hit this girl when she was walking across the road, witness said he swerved towards her instead of away from her so it was more than likely on purpose." I frowned at the response. If the girl wakes up she'll be questioned by the police as to what happened. I tapped on the panel closest to the front notifying our driver that we had her strapped in and he could start speeding down the road now. Our driver before this was fired for injuring a patient because he had not closed the doors properly and he sped off without warning. A law suit was brought up then dropped after he was fired, justice was served and our patients family was happy about that.
"Alice her heart rate is dropping fast!" His face turned white realizing she was crashing and we could loose her. "Get me the paddles and fast." He turned around and grabbed the paddles known as a defibrillator. I had no other choice but to cut open her shirt and move the fabric away from her chest. I quickly places one paddle above and to the left of the heart and the other paddle slightly beneath and placed to the right a bit. When I heard the flatline I spoke the words clear and shocked her with the paddles. I allowed my partner to quickly adjust the shock level on the Manual External Defibrillator and I shocked her again, I glanced outside the window for a second while he changed the voltage and noticed the boy in the distance collapsed to his knees, he must have seen me grab the paddles. After the shock level was changed a few times we finally brought her back in plenty of time when it was charged to 300. The monitor started showing her heart rate, she was weak but she had a pulse. She most likely wouldn't have any brain damage, possibly some memory loss but all should go well. We brought her back in plenty of time so that most likely wouldn't happen. I wasn't sure if she was bleeding eternally or not but we were rushing quickly to the hospital. I could tell already her arm was broken, it was swollen and hot to the touch and I'm pretty sure if I turned her arm around the bone was popped out of her skin. I didn't want to take a chance and hurt her more than she already was. Her leg looked twisted to the side it could be a sprain but I highly doubt it. This one was lucky. My partner put the mask on her again and we hurried to the hospital, I was watching her monitor and her very closely to make sure nothing else happened.
Upon entering the hospital we took her to the Emergency Room where doctors and a nurse rushed over to her immediately they carefully moved her from the gurney and onto a hospital bed with wheels, I handed the head doctor the report we had written on exactly what happened at the scene and where I had to revive her and exactly how long it took which was two minutes and fourth seven seconds. I watched as a doctor pulled out a flashlight and opened her eyelids to check her pupils, they then wheeled her through the double doors and to the prep room where they would wash their hands and get their gloves and masks on to get ready for surgery, they would check her vitals and all that good stuff and soon she should be out of surgery if nothing else is wrong and be allowed visitors from her family only in less than twenty four hours. I turned on my heel and went back to work slowly awaiting another call where I would be needed. I could hear the doctors in the distance shouting orders, by the sound of it she was crashing again. Pore girl.
Selena was prepped for immediate operation, the doctor had already shocked her with the paddles twice since she was rolled into the door. With no other choice and little time he had no choice but to snip her clothes off and prep for operation, washing his hands and scrubbing in his nurse placed his mask on, and the necessary tools including his scalpel and, his head mirror. He began taking out pieces of glass from her torso from the car she had been hit with his tweezer like tool. Moving towards her lungs he cleaned the area around her wound which was fairly deep and would require stitches, then he made an incision just big enough to get his hand inside her chest and take out any pieces of gravel or glass that had got inside her wound. After taking out the unnecessary items out of the wound, he cleaned it once more then sewed her up to stop it from getting infected or her bleeding out. She would have to be monitored throughout her recovery he wouldn't want her stitches to come undone. Wiping the beads of sweat off his forehead he continued operating on his patients leg. He hoped for her survival its likely she could go into a coma or crash at anytime.
~~~~Author's POV~~~~
An interesting Point of view if i might say so myself, I don't think I have ever read any books where they included the point of view of a paramedic or doctor.

I know this was a short chapter but I just wanted to include a bit as far as the ride to the ambulance

Don't forget to Vote, and Comment if you liked the chapter. Votes and comments are like my readers telling me I did a good job. ✨💫

Until the next chapter my lovely readers 😘😁
