John and Adrian lied down under the tree, staring at the sky deeply, as if their souls collided with it.

The stars in the Californian sky were barely visible.
The air was thick and humid, causing a John's hair to curl up to it's natural, wavy state.
He was starting to look like Bilbo Baggins.

The air was very still, giving off a aura of serenity.

"Your hair looks so cute, you look like a little hobbit", Adrian whispered softly, looking into John's eyes.

"Heh I know, that happens when is humid", said John, blushing slightly.

Another stillness went through the air. Both of them were lost in a trance, staying at the night sky. Everything was silent.
The only noise that was heard was the crickets and the muffled rustling of the tree.

The silence was eventually broken when Adrian asked
"Hey um, do you like anyone?"

John felt his face warm up.

"No, no, not right now. I'm not a very likable person anyway"

"I must disagree with you on that one", said Adrian.

John's face became a tomato.

"Heheh I guess so, but um, I only like certain kinds of people", John interjected.

"Heh, what do you mean?", Adrian asked, giggling.

"I only like...guys", John said timidly.
John immediately regretted that decision.
Thousands of thoughts flooded his mind.

You fool! Now that he knows he'll leave you and you'll have no one.

He's going to tell everyone now.

Stupid.

Poor excuse for a human being.

Adrian began to speak.

"Really?!"

He seemed very excited.

"That's um, cool dude", he said, trying to calm himself down.

They both looked at each other for a few seconds and laughed.

"Hey um you lived in San Antonio right? So what elementary school did you go to?", asked John.

"Carl Wanke, why do you ask?"

John's heart stopped.
He knew he looked familiar.

John used to have a best friend in elementary school, until he had to move, but he couldn't remember who it was.

It was Adrian.

There was a reason why he had a hard time remembering who it was. It wasn't because it was over six years ago, it was because of his mother.

His mother.
