Family sucks, really.

Claire was less than joyous as she sat by the breakfast table, letter in hand and her dad's barn owl perching lightly on her shoulder as he nagged her for treats.

Her breakfast companions were all but awake; positively snoozing over their toast and leaving Claire to grumble all alone.

Her letter had been from her father, the only semi bearable parent she had, it had said as followed, of course translated from French.

Dearest Claire.

My sweet daughter, I pray and hope you are adapting well to your new school.

I have been extremely busy lately, working at the English Ministry of Magic is not too different from the French - but their general customs are enough to put me on edge.

Your mother is doing splendid, even though the Kneazles are not too pleased about spending most of their days inside. Apparently some neighbor thought they were large foxes. An unfortunate misunderstanding that your mother understandably took great offense from.

But to the matter that I wanted to write to you about.
Since Thomas and Jack will spend this Christmas working, me and your mother will vacate with the Kneazles. I expect we will be going to Spain.

I know that Hogwarts also offer to let their students stay over the holidays, so I'll rest assure that you are well taken care of.

I will send your presents shortly.

Love, dad.

Yeah, what a wonderful family she had.

If she were to quickly translate the letter; hey offspring, see you next year maybe.

Man, she should've been expecting it. By judging from the fact that her nannies raised her, she knew that her parents didn't enjoy being just that - parents.

Yet she had not expected to get secluded when she already had been sent off to an entirely new school.

Of course none had noticed that her mood had soured. The twins went off to their classes, the wonder trio kept to their quiet scheming and Percy... Well, Percy was memorizing his new study lists. He wouldn't notice it if she grew two new heads and started to spew fire.

So she spent the entire day with her eyes glued to the ground. Man, she had wanted to celebrate Christmas with her family. They were not perfect, but they were hers.
