Connor isolated himself in his room for the rest of the night. Cheryl had invited him to have some of the pizza she bought for the teenagers sleeping over, but Connor politely declined. He informed his mom that he'd make the second frozen pizza later when he was hungry.
That time came around 2:42 in the morning. Being the weekend Connor thought it'd be a good idea to binge watch the entire first season of Transparent, which resulted in him being up at this hour. Even all of Bethany's friends had fallen asleep at this point.
With heavy eyes, Connor placed his laptop on the floor next to his bed and gradually got out from under the warm covers. He let out a yawn, followed by a stretch. He disconnected his phone from the 3 foot apple charger and turned on its flashlight. The light illuminated his room, allowing him to see what he was doing.
He quietly made his way out of his room and into the kitchen. When in the kitchen he successfully turned on the lights and grabbed the frozen pizza out of the oven.
Considering Connor was tired, this wasn't the smartest idea to be making pizza, but the boy was hungry and he craved pizza. He picked up the cold, squared, box and flipped it over. He was greeted by the directions stating exactly how to cook the pizza.
Remove Pizza from plastic
Preheat oven to 325F (162C)
Place Pizza on middle rack, cook for 15 minutes
Let stand for 10 minutesConnor let out a sigh when he saw how long the pizza would take. He dragged himself over to the oven. He figured that maybe if he cranked up the heat, it would take less time to cook.
Thinking he was a genius, Connor carefully punched in the number '425' and set the oven to preheat.
He trotted over to the kitchen table and sat down in one of the chairs, pulling out his phone and he began scrolling through twitter. Connor began dozing off as he looked on his phone screen. 3:04AM. Fun.
Annoyed and unable to wait any longer, Connor placed the pizza on the middle rack as instructed and closed the oven. He didn't bother setting a timer because he figured he'd be keeping an eye on the pizza.
But as he waited, his eyes grew heavier and heavier with every second passing. Until eventually, he fell asleep.
The thing that finally awoke him was the smell of smoke coating the kitchen. Connor widened his eyes at the sight. He began coughing is quickly opened a nearby window, hoping the smoke would escape.
He ran over to the over and shut it off, grabbing oven mitts and pulling the pizza out. It was safe to say Connor wouldn't be eating pizza tonight.
Once the oven was shut, Connor reached for a dish rag and frantically started waving it around in the air, in hopes it'd clear the smoke away.
"Please for the love of God, don't set off the -" Connors speech was interrupted by a loud, ear piercing, barring sound. "- the smoke detectors" he finished.
The smoke detectors in his house were all wired together. So as soon as one went off, they all went off.
"No no no shit" Connor mumbled, running over to fetch a chair so he could stand up and take the batteries out. Unfortunately for him, however, it was too late.
"Connor?" Connor turned his head to the entrance of the kitchen, only to see Tony standing there. "What on earth are you doing?"
Connor, in near tears, spoke shakily "I was trying to- and the pizza - and" he couldn't speak in a coherent sentence.
The everybody in the household came trotting into the kitchen. Nicola looked pissed, Brandon looked confused, Bethany, Zoe, and Andrea were all to tired to even understand what was going on, and Troye was holding back a laughter.
Tony walked over to the smoke detector, taking out the batteries to make it stop. Soon, the rest of them shut off as well. "What did you do?" Tony asked.
"I was hungry so, so i was making Pizza an-" Connor pulled his sweatshirt over his hand and wiped his nose, then his eyes. "and I wasn't thinking and preheated the oven for more than the recommended temperature then I fell asleep with the pizza in the oven" As Connor spoke, he realized how stupid he actually was for cranking up the heat.
Cheryl walked over to Connor and wrapped him in a hug. "Hey, it's okay. Don't cry."
Truth was, Connor didn't know why he was crying. Maybe it was because he felt bad for waking everyone up. Maybe it was because he was tired. Maybe because he made a fool out of himself in front of everyone.
Connor hugged his mom back before letting go. He turned to all the teenagers currently looking at his direction. "Sorry" he muttered. They all just waved him off and walked back into their respective rooms, including Cheryl and Tony.
With a sigh, Connor walked over to his burnt Pizza. There was no way he could save it, it was burnt to the crisp. "I'm such an idiot" Connor mumbled to himself.
"That you are" a heavy Australian voice spoke from behind him, looking at the pizza box sitting on the counter. "What did you preheat the oven to?"
"425" Connor explained, Troye just let out a laugh.
"A whole 100 degrees more? You're lucky you didn't burn down the house." Troye chuckled, breaking apart the box so it would fit better inside the garbage can. "Why are you up at 3AM anyways?"
"I was watching a movie on Netflix" Connor explained. "Sorry for waking you up, by the way." No matter how much he disliked Troye, he still couldn't help but feel bad for disturbing the boys sleep.
"No it's fine. I was up," Troye walked over to a chair and plopped himself down. He grabbed his phone from his pocket and threw it on the table.
"Why were you up?" Connor asked, picking up the pizza and tossing it away. Troye motioned over to his phone.
"Texting Joey," he explained with a heavy sigh.
"Joey?"
"My boyfriend" Troye cleared up. "Don't get me wrong, he's an amazing guy but it just gets frustrating when he won't answer me until hours after i text him"
"hmm" Connor hummed. "Graceffa, right?" Troye nodded. "Why doesn't he answer you right away?"
"He usually hangs out with his friends."
"And you don't go with him?"
"I don't like his friends" And with that, the conversation fell silent. "I'm going back to bed," then, Troye got up and did exactly that.
Connor stayed in the kitchen. He didn't know how he knew Joey Graceffa, but the name did ring a bell. Maybe Nicola had said something about him.
Whether that be true or not, Connor didn't care. He was tired and he needed to head to bed.
As he walked pass the bathroom, Troye emerged, giving COnnor a slight grin before saying "Goodnight Smokey."
"Smokey?"
"Yeah, that's your new nickname."
