Nobody knew what to do, they all just stood there. Bethany looked over at Connor, then back at Joey. She wanted to say something, but she couldn't formulate the words.
"I-I..." Troye started, but he couldn't even speak coherently. Bethany immediately handed her bags to Connor and ran over to Troye, holding him in her embrace. Troye finally let the tears fall into Bethany's shoulder. "I..."
"Shhh..." Bethany hushed, walking Troye over to the bench for him to sit down. Troye listened to Bethany and took a seat.
"Why?" Was the first word he stuttered. "I just, he-"
Connor couldn't take it, he couldn't handle the fact that Troye's heart was just shattered in front of him. It was truly a scene you'd never want to experience with the people you care about. You just want happiness for them.
Fed up, Connor set his bags next to Hannah and began marching over to Joey and Daniel, only to be stopped by Troye's grasp.
"What are you doing?" Troye question, his eyes were red and puffy, his voice shaky.
"I'm going to go talk to that asshole," Connor replied, getting out of Troye's grasp.
"Don-don't," Troye pleaded, trying to stop the tears from falling. "Le-let me."
As much as Connor wanted to ignore Troye and teach Joey a lesson, he knew Troye would have to be the one to do the talking. So, he nodded his head in defeat and took a seat next to the crying boy.
After a couple seconds of silence, Troye finally gathered the courage to stand up. Connor gave him a thumbs up in support, and then Troye was on his way over to Joey.
As Troye walked over, Hannah took a seat next to Connor so he could explain everything that had just gone down.
"Joey?" Troye squeaked, causing the boy in question to turn around. The smile on Joey's face immediately drooped as he saw Troye standing in front of him, heartbroken. "What is this?"
"Troye I- this isn't what it looks like!" Joey was quick to say, letting go of Daniels hands. Daniel seemed to understand who Troye was, and this look on his face was nothing but sheer terror.
"I thought you said this was you cousin, Joey! I didn't know peopled snogged their fucking cousins." Here's something that people learn about Troye; when he's pissed, he doesn't have a filter. Kids could be right next to him and he could still drop the f-bomb.
"Troye I, I'm sorry!" was the only thing Joey could say, as if that was enough to convince Troye to stay with him.
"I'm done, Joey. We're fucking over," and without another word coming from either boys mouth, Troye turned his back to Joey and began walking over to his friends. The weird thing was, he wasn't crying. He couldn't cry, he felt to numb to feel anything.
"we're over." Troye whispered, not making eye contact with anyone. "we're fucking over."
"Troye," Bethany sighed, walking up to her friend and pulling him in for another hug. "we were going to tell you, bu-"
"You knew?" Troye asked, pulling away from Bethany. "You knew this entire time and you never told me?"
"what? No, I only found out yesterday from Connor!" Bethany was quick to defend, not realizing she just threw Connor under the bus. Troye's glare turned to Connor, who's face was bright red.
"Connor? when were you planning on telling me?"
"Today!" Connor quickly shouted, "Today, I swear, but then h-"
"So you took me to the fucking mall just so I could see me boyfriend make out with his secret lover?" Troye boomed, not letting Connor fully explain. This entire situation turned so frustrating for the group, everybody but Troye knew the truth, but Troye wouldn't let anybody explain.
"No! I did-"
"forget it, let's leave." And without another word, Troye made his way to the exit of the mall.
--
Connor had convinced Hannah and Bethany to sit in the back, making Troye have to sit next to Connor in the passenger seat. Connor had formulated a plan and ran it through the girls, quickly getting their approval.
Despite Troye's house being the closest to the mall, Connor went out of his way to drop bethany off first, then Hannah. He needed to be alone in the car with Troye, that way Troye would have no other choice but to let Connor explain.
Yet, Troye was being difficult. When Connor would talk, Troye would turn up the volume of the radio. when Connor turned off the radio, Troye would turn it back on. Connor couldn't win, until he pulled into Troye's driveway.
Once the car was parked, Troye mumbled a quick 'thanks' to Connor before attempting to open the door, which Connor had locked.
"What the fuck, let me out."
"No."
"Excuse me?" Troye questioned, sounding offended.
"Not until you let me explain myself," Connor retaliated, raising his eyebrow at Troye. "I've got all day, Troye. I don't mind waiting,"
with a sigh of frustration, Troye leaned his head back and nodded, giving the Connor the okay to talk.
"I only found out two days ago," Connor started, getting Troye's attention. "When I was sick, Nicola told me that she knew Joey, considering Daniel is her best friend."
So connor went on to explain, he explained how Nicola told him and how she specifically said not to tell Troye. How they went to coffee with Bethany and how she refused to tell Troye, leaving it up for Connor. How Connor was about to tell troye outside of Victorias secret, and how thats what he and Bethany were talking about. How they had no idea Joey would be there to tell Troye himself.
Troye sat there, dumbfounded. He felt bad for putting Connor on the spot like that, he felt like he was a horrible person; so he began to cry.
Not only did he cry about being a dick to Connor, he also cried about Joey. He cried over the fact that he had been clueless for months. He cried over the fact that he wouldn't listen to people when they told him Joey was a bad person. He cried over a lot, and Connor couldn't dare watch it any longer.
"hey," Connor soothed, placing a hand on Troyes back. "what do you say you come over to my place? we can hang out, watch a movie, and forget about that no good, cheating, dick?"
and for the first time in a couple of hours, Connor saw Troye smile. That sounded nice, didn't it?
