~ Chapter 30 pt. 2 ~
Looking left and right, there was nothing down the hall; the coast was clear. I tip-toed to another room and put my ear against the wall. When there were no sounds from inside, I quietly turned the door handle and took a peek inside. It was a bedroom used for storage. There was an empty bedframe and closet. Boxes lined the walls making the room appear smaller. This first floor has nothing, literally.
An "oomph" from upstairs had my ears suddenly perked up. It sounded like someone got punched in the face followed by wood splintering. There were a few shouts and then I was on my way up the stairs. Two men started pounding on a door in the corner while the door next to it stood ajar. This will be fun. Due to the loud banging they couldn't hear me sneak up behind them.
Tapping one guy on the shoulder, he shrugged my hand off, not even acknowleging me. How rude! I grunted and decided to flick him in the back of the head instead. It was his turn to grunt as he turned around in annoyance. Right when he realized it was me, I punched him in the nose, retracted my hand, and drove my elbow into his chest. His nose was covered in blood, dripping down onto his shirt. He was definietely in pain, but not enough to my satisfaction. Grabbing a fistful of his hair, I shoved my knee into his face. He instantly closed his eyes and fell down face flat. That's going to leave a mark...
Something hit my side as my body came into hard contact with the wall. The other man was standing over me, an evil glint in his eye. He balled his fists holding them up in the air ready to give me a blow. Guys can be so stupid sometimes. They always stand with their legs spread wide apart. Of course I took advantage of that. I kicked him in his sweet spot and he let out a high pitched wince as he cradled his jewels. That ought to teach him a lesson. I back handed him, slammed his head into the wall, and finally flipped him over before he was unconscious.
"What the heck was that?" a voice asked from inside the room.
"Crap," I whispered. Spotting the open room next door, I headed inside right as the other door opened. I hid behind the open door to insure that no one can see me, but I can see them. Darell opened the other door and stood in the doorway.
At the sight of his men on the floor he yelled, "Everyone to the basement!" before he ran downstairs himself. There was shuffling downstairs before I could hear the basement door slam open. Quietly leaving my hiding spot, I went next door. In the corner was Lexi handcuffed to a bedpost with her legs tied together and her mouth duck-taped shut. Next to her Alex lay motionless on the floor. His face dug into the carpet, his hair covering his face. Lexi was frantically trying to free herself as tears formed in her eyes.
"Lexi!" I whisper-shouted. She whipped her head to me and started yelling something. Because of the duck tape I couldn't understand a word she said. "Shhh!"
I ran over to Alex and searched in his pocket until I found the knife he had. Dropping to my knees in front of Lexi, I cut her legs free and ripped the tap off her mouth.
"Bobby pin," Lexi said shoving her head into my arms. A small black pin was in her hair. I took it and used it to pick the lock. A scream came from downstairs. I need to hurry up! When I finally got the lock loose, Lexi sprung up and started pulling Alex into a closet.
"What are you doing?"
"Putting him in the there so he doesn't die! Now come here and help me!" Lexi demanded in a stressed tone. Granting her command, I dragged him into the closet.
Lexi kissed the top of his head, "We'll be right back."
Enclosing him in the closet we both set out to find Logan, but were stopped by the trampede of people climbing up the stairs. We went straight to work the second they made eye contact with us. Lexi jumped up over the railing, dropping to the first floor. Two men raced back down, fully focused on Lexi while the three others charged at me.
