~ Chapter 3 ~

"Awww, you two look so beautiful in your matching pink dresses. Don't you think so honey?" The twins' mom, Katherine said with a smile.

"O my! Look at my perfect little girls!" Their dad, Oliver, replied while bending down and tickling their tummies.

"Dad, not again!" Lexi and Tori screeched while laughing at the same time.

Katherine covered her ears with both hands, "Oliver, you're going to make my ears fall off!"

"Sorry sweetie." He stood back up and straightened his suit, kissing Katherine's forehead in the process.

"Let's leave before we miss the wedding," Katherine implied.

Tori and Lexi scrambled to the garage, put their white flats on, and jumped to in the car quickly. This was the first wedding they've ever attended and they were estatic.

Lexi woke up finding herself on a hospital bed with her sister asleep also lying in one, not 10 feet away. The door to the room opened and a nurse walked in carrying a clipboard.

"Good morning sweetie," she said softly checking the devices attached to Tori's arm.

Lexi looked around the room confused, "What happ..." The memory of last night came rushing back; the man pointing his knife at their throats, trying to call the cops, their parents being shoved into the back of a van...

"My parents!" Lexi blurted out, "What...they...men...van...knife...where..."

"Woah, woah. Slow down honey, you need to rest. You had a concussion yesterday."

"But what about my parents? Where are they? Who were those five men? What happened to them?"

The nurse's eyes drooped down, "They're missing right now. The cops are on a full out search; they are going to find your parents soon," she assured Lexi.

Tears flooded her tiny face, falling down her cheeks. She tried to wipe them away, not wanting to look weak but failed. She wimpered, biting her lip, pain and desperation showing. She didn't want to believe the nurse. She knew her parents were waiting for them right outside the hospital doors. She needed to believe her parents were ok.

The nurse walked to her side,"It's going to be fine, sweetie," she put her arm around her shoulders and rubbed her back trying to stop the tears.

Lexi and the nurse turned around; the sheets on the other bed moved, "ughhh. Why does my body hurt so much?" Tori sat up rubbing her eyes. "Lexi? Why are you crying? What's wro..." Tori immediately started crying, "Mom...Dad! Where are they? They can't be gone!" she wailed.

"It's going to be ok girls" the nurse attempted at calming the two down.

Tori and Lexi both got up from the bed and rushed toward each other and swallowed themselves up in a bear hug. They climbed on a chair together and cried on each other's shoulders for so long that it started to turn dark outside. By that time all their tears had dried up; the had run out on tears.

The same nurse came back in, "Are you girls ok now? I've been checking up on you every hour or so. My name's Rebecca by the way. If you ever need anything I'll try to help," She said with a sympathetic smile.

"Thanks Rebecca. So what's going to happen to us? Since our parents are," Tori gulped, "gone."

"O! I almost forgot to tell you about that. You've been arranged to live with your god parents."

"Our god parents? We have god parents?" Lexi asked in a confused tone.

"Yes. They are picking you up tonight in about an hour. They'll take care of you, no worries," she explained.

"ok, I've never met them before though..." Tori said looking at her sister.

She answered, "Yea, me either."

"So, this is bedroom is for the both of your girls to share," Lilly, their godmother said, "go inside. Don't be nervous; you can unpack your things now. Dinner will be ready in 30 minutes." She walked off, but right before she turned completely away from the twins, they caught a glimpse of disgust on her face. What was wrong with her?

Tori and Lexi looked at their new room; it had plain and bare white walls and a bunk bed in the corner near a small window. There was a big empty desk on the wall next to the door and the closet door was in the corner opposite their beds. Down the hall there was a small bathroom.

"This room is so small. How are we both suppose to live in this room together?" Lexi asked, turning around so she was facing Tori.

"This is all we got now."

"Well, let's stop sulking and get unpacked!" Lexi exclaimed.

"ok, ok. We've gotta make the best out of what we've got," Tori said smiling.

Lexi jumped on the top bunk, "This one's mine!"

She took her bags and started to unpack all of her belongings and started decorating her bed. She put a bunch of small posters on the wall, mostly containing pictures of beautiful landscapes or animals rather than hot celebrities. Tori put her suitcase on her bed and took out all her clothes. She put them in their tiny closet making sure they were neatly organized. On one side of the closet was all her clothes and on the other, were her sisters. Most of Lexi's wardrobe consisted of leather jackets, bracelets, skinny jeans, sneakers, and t-shirts that hugged her body perfectly. Tori's was made up of sundresses, belts, sandals, and clothing with various prints. They both have wavy hair, but most of the time, they straighten it and they wore minimal make-up if they had any at all.

"Dinner!!!" Lilly called out.

Tori walked over to Lilly, "Can you wait a minute? I have to put this pile of clothes away," she gestured with her head to a neat pile of clothing lying in her arms.

"No. When I say it's dinner time, you come down and eat immediately. Understood?" all kindness stripped away from her face.

"Ummm," Tori hesitated, "ok, but-"

Lilly slapped her across the face so hard, the pile of clothes flew up in the air before landing all over the floor. Tori was so shocked she fell on the floor clutching her red and swollen cheek with her hand. "No buts!! You little brat," Lilly said before stalking off into the kitchen.

"Tori? Woah, what happened to you? Did you slip?" Lexi asked teasingly. She came bounding down the stairs and examined the mess around Tori. She was still on the floor holding her cheek. Before another word could be said tears started to make their way down her face. "Uh-oh. I'm sorry. Are you ok?"

"Lilly...hit...me..." Tori choked out.

"What?!? O, that mother-"

"GIrls!! Dinner! NOW!" Lilly screamed from the hallway, her face red with anger.

"You hit my sister?" Lexi accused more than questioned.

"So? What are you going to do about it? You're just two little girls," she spat, "you should be thankful I'm even letting you stay in my house."

"Why did my parents choose YOU to be my godparents?" Lexi asked more to herself than Lilly.

"We were friends, duh. But I HATE children. If you leave me alone, I'll leave you alone. It's as simple as that," Lilly ended the conversation and walked up to her bedroom shutting her door.

Lexi looked at her sister's shaking body; she was crying - hard. Lexi bent down and hugged her while rubbing her hand against her back. "We'll be ok, Tori. We'll find a way out of this mess."
