Chapter 9

"Hold out your hand" the king's voiced seemed to boom in power

She was standing in front of him in his throne room

She reached out her arm and opened her hand palm side up, revealing the sun stone

The king's eyes widened a bit like avani's had as he looked upon a glowing stone

"It's been hundreds of years since I've formally been around a child of the sun" the king said softly

"A what?" She asked

"The sun rules over everything, that's why called the sun stone." He smiled softly, "I'm pleased to see the future queen with the intention of magical freedom. We've waited to long for this day"

She tucked the stone away and smiled

"And I'm pleased to be allies with the elves" she said

The king raised an eyebrow amused

"Well, you don't have to be allies with humans, but it was worth a shot"

The king's small smile grew to a grin

"We will assist you until you're capable to find your dragon, and when you do, if you free us, when you've proven to be genuine and true to your word, we'd be honored to be your allies"

"So, prince Avani informed me on dragons, the stone, the legends, the truth of the purge, and why my brother was killed, but would you tell me how this curse traps you here?"

The king got up and began walking towards a door behind his thrown, motioning to her to follow, which they did

The doorway led to a balcony

"You're aware that each dragon has a talent, your ancestor's was to obtain the abilities of those around it, it didn't steel them simply copied them, once their hearts are bound together their rider can also wield their gifts. When the one who stole the stone right as the stone began uniting them, the first ability went to the true heir, then the stone was stolen. That ability was similar to what a warlock could do. then the thief forced the true heir to cast the spell. He forced him to with threats of torturing the dragon. He had no choice." He said looking out of the city

"Then what?" She asked, completely focused, she was fascinated by the story from history

"Of course the heir was reluctant so he made a way to break the curse. He took his sun stone and separated it into 9 pieces. To represent the 9 kingdoms. He then asked the sun for a special sun stone which was granted to him. The specially given stone is the one you're holding, the other 9 pieces were hung on necklaces and he gave one necklace to each ruler with a promise. When all 9 pieces are reunited the curse will be broken. Until it is broken, magic is forced to reside here. He prophesied that you would come to the elves first so he entrusted us with the special stone"

"Collect all 9 necklaces, that doesn't seem to hard" she said

"Like I said though, each kingdom. Mermaids have a necklace and are underwater creatures, marrow, the bird people, dragons have one but currently despise humans, humans have one and seeing as how he ordered your brother's death for simply knowing about sun stones I doubt he'll hand it over. We have one, and you can't forget about the dwarves, halflings, trolls, or fairies."

"Oh I see what your saying, the trick will be getting the pieces from enemies."

"Yes, I wish you the best of luck" the king says while extending out his hand, "here is ours, please keep it safe" he opened his hand revealing the necklace. The stone hanging from it was beautiful but nearly as grand as hers. It missed its glow

She accepted it and put it on, tucking it into her shirt

"Thank you." She said bowing slightly

"It is I who should thank you.. Princess" he said with a small smile

It felt weird being called that, everyone thought of her as so crazy and improper, hard to grasp that she was a true heir and currently a princess

Her lips twisted into the biggest grin she'd she'd smiled in ages as she nodded in response

"Well, if it's ok with you my lord, I think I'll head off to begin training" she said

"Of course" he nodded

She curtsied before heading back through the doorway to ask Avani to train her.
