Chapter 25

"Terrance!?"

She woke up to the sound of her name being yelled

"Avani?" She yelled back, sitting up and rubbing the sleep from her eyes

She saw him walk out from behind the trees, followed by Ava

His eyes widened

"We uh, bonded last night." Terrance while starting to get up. Once she was half up her muscles started screaming at her. "Geez that flight made me sore." She mumbled

"So it's official?" He questioned

She nodded before hopping off his tale

"Our leaders have been born!" He exclaimed

"Actually, I was born 18 years ago." She said mockingly to pick on him

He just smiled

"So what's the plan today?" Terrance asked

"Well you see, the natives are a group of dwarves that branched off after the curse and tried to leave. They tried to leave several times, each time stripping away a layer of humanity." Ava said

"What do you mean?"

"Well for those who didn't lose their lives, each time you cross a border a little bit of your sanity is stripped away."

"And no creature from this cursed land can kill a native without taking on their insanity. So only a human can kill a native." Avani added

"So I have to kill them?" Terrance asked fearfully

"No," Ava said, "they should be going to sleep around now, our plan is simply for you to sneak past them, climb the tree, and escape with the necklace."

"Well I did climb trees at home." Terrance said in thought before nodding, "okay."

"Okay! And we'll be out of their territory waiting for you, waiting prepared, just in case." Avani said

"We'll be there for your get away"

"Ok." Terrance said. She nervously started walking in their camp's direction. She had no clue how she could pull this off. It didn't feel possible, but she'd try.

The others started walking behind her, they didn't plan to wait at the border, they planned to stay just out of sight and be ready to pounce in case.

A figure rushed out in front of the elves, blocking their way. Terrance didn't notice and walked farther and farther away.

"She and he have to do their first task togethers they must!" The small hunched over human said

"Why." Avani asked in a statement tone.

"I'm Gino, dragon rider from the last generation. For their bond to be complete they can only rely on each other in the mission directly following the ritual."

The elves were weary about taking his word for it but when they looked over their shoulder at the dragon, he had a look that agreed.

Avani rolled his eyes and nodded to Ava. They'd wait there.

There was a gust of wind. They looked back to see the dragon fly off and when they turned back around, the crippled human was gone
