"Welcome. What an interesting sight. I haven't seen a human in nearly 400 years." A soothing woman's voice said
Terrance's stomach had finally calmed enough for her to take in and notice her surroundings, she was on a tree house porch, one well dressed bird person I front of her, Ava diagonally behind to the left, two marrows behind her and Ava and 3 in front, 5 in total
The marrow stood taller than Ava, they were leanly built, they looked normal to some extent. A crown of feathers instead of hair and wings hung from their arms, they had usable hands though
"To what do I owe this visit?" The marrow in front asked, snapping Terrance out of her daze of admiration
Terrance looked at her, trying to think of a good response, why was her mind blanking? She couldn't think. She stood with her moth half forming the words she couldn't think of
"Just to be clear, we are speaking to the marrow in charge?" Ava asked from behind, saving her at least a little embarrassment
"Yes" the lead marrow said sarcastically like it was obvious. Their leader was female and spoke with her chest out and head high in confidence
"So you're the queen?" Terrance asked
"I'm the king." The marrow said flatly, "the king is the ruler, it's not gender specific, and blah blah blah. Every human I've ever met has asked about that."
Terrance stood their awkwardly. The mood in the air was slowly changing from pleasant curiosity from the marrow king to thinning patience
"What is your name?" Terrance asked after a moment of awkward silence
The king moved her right hand and rested it on her hip
"Your majesty, you grace, king, take your pic, my name is not important, we are not friends, now tell me why've you come"
Terrance swallowed the anxiety in her throat, "I am the sun stone heir."
The king didn't say anything right away but Terrance watched her eyes widen slightly in thought
"Let me see your stone." She said shortly
Terrance looked back at Ava, the elf looked as hesitant as Terrance felt. She turned to look at the marrow again, without breaking eye contact she pulled the stone out of her pocket under her cloak then put it forward. Slowly she opened her fingers
The marrow's eyes opened slightly wider
"And your moon stones?" The king asked
Terrance tucked her stone away safely again and then pulled two necklaces out into visibility
"So the elves and hobbits this far?" The king asked
Terrance nodded
"Well, I'm not as trusting. I don't dislike the elves or hobbits but I don't trust them enough to take their word for it. I'll only give you our moon stone one way"
"How?" Terrance asked
"Come to me with your dragon"
"But I'm already here!" Terrance said complaining
"Enough!" The marrow said, that is my term. However, I know this will be a long journey, you are welcome to stay with us for a while and rest, then continue on your journey"
Terrance was frustrated but didn't want to seem ungrateful for the king's hospitality so she nodded
"Thank you." Terrance said
The king nodded to Terrance then pointed at the two marrow behind Terrance and Ava. The one pointed at walked up and stood on either side of the elf king and Terrance
"These two will show you to a temporary tree house." The king said before extending her wing arms and taking off, followed by the other two marrows.
Terrance and Ava followed their guide closely
Hey guys! The picture is kind of how I picture marrows to be, don't forget! I love hearing your feed back(:
