Chapter 22: save me Avery

"Lucas, Hey." Riley said when she answered

"Hey I have some good news." I said.

"Let me hear it." She said

"I'm coming home."

"Oh. Cool." She said monotone.

''That's all you have to say."

" What would you like me to say Lucas."

" uh maybe a yay and I missed you and can't wait to see you."

" NO YOU SHOULD BE SAYING THAT TO ME LUCAS." She yelled." I HAVE TEXTED YOU AND CALLED YOU EVERYDAY AND YOU NEVER ANSWERED."

" I'm sorry Riley."

" I have to go." She said and hung up.

"Sup." Maya said. "What are you still doing in bed?"

"Sulking." I rolled over " wanna join."

"Sure." She said as she threw her bag down and jumped in my bed.

" Lucas is coming home." I said.

"Wait. You mean Lucas Fryer."

"Yes"

"No call Lucas."

"Yes".

" No call, no write, no text, can't bother to say hi Fryer."

"Maya."

"Sorry." She said. "Let's go to school hun. Were going to be late."

At school we were joined by Farkle and a few other people we met. Marley, Avery, and her long time boyfriend Nathan. I tried replacing Lucas with a bunch of New friends. Needless to say it didn't work. But these guys always had my back. And they text me every night.

Lucas was suppose to be back in school today but I haven't seen him and it is getting close to lunch. I thought I was going to get lucky but just as I was thinking about it here comes Lucas himself walking in like he never left. And he looked at me. He lost the privilege to look at me. Don't look at me.

As soon as the bell rang I bolted out the door. I was not giving him a chance to talk to me. But sure enough I turn around and he was there. Dang it. Forgot he was in track.

" Riley we need to talk." He said

" Really? Didn't I say that all month?"

"Riley come on."

" hey itty bitty." Said Avery walking towards us. "Is this Lucas Fryer."

"Yes Avery" I said. Save me Avery say we have something to do.

" Hey, Hayley said she had a blast with you." Avery laughed.

"You know Hayley?." He questioned

"No I don't. Nathan does. My super cute BF. He is Hayley's cousin. Weird right."

I tapped him on the arm " blast? " I asked him.
