"What do they say?" Dan asked.
"They're all about how relieved they are that were alright, and that they're so happy that we're together."
"I'm happy that we're together too," Dan told him with a wink.
"And I'm relieved we're alright," Phil said, with a similar expression.
"I'm going out to town. You staying here?"
"I'm not sure if I can take going out into that hellhole. So yeah, I'll stay here. Can you get chocolate?"
"Fine," Dan said, rolling his eyes. "Be careful, OK?"
"I will be."
"Don't go down the stairs, alright? And don't run. And if anything happens, ring me. And-"
"Dan! Stop worrying! I'll be fine!"
Dan kissed the top of Phil's head. "Ok. Just... Stay safe."
"I will."
Dan kissed Phil again, and stood up. He picked his phone and inhaler off the table and slid them into his pocket. "I'll be back in an hour, OK?"
"Alright. See you soon."
Phil gave Dan a small wave and Dan smiled back, picking up his keys and blowing Phil a kiss. "Be careful."
Phil shook his head with a smile as the door closed.

Dan had originally only planned to go out and buy coffee, and some chocolate, at Phil's request, but as he walked down the street his eye flickered over to a different shop to the Tesco Express that he'd been aiming for.
Admittedly, he knew he'd feel strange walking into a posh jewellery shop with his old faded black jeans and grey t-shirt, but for some reason, he headed over to the door.
Once he was inside, the rows of glass covered shelving at the back caught his eye. Beautiful twisted gold bands, diamond studded silver rings, engraved platinum... This shop seemed to have it all. He didn't know where to look first.
A sale assistant walked over to him. "Are you looking for anything specific, or just browsing?" she asked, sounding ridiculously cheerful.
"Well," Dan said, "I was looking for a ring for someone quite special. Nothing too expensive. Simple and elegant."
She smiled and motioned for him to follow her, leading him to a shelf in the corner. "For a special girl, is it?"
Dan blushed. "Nearly right."
"What do you mean?"
Five weeks ago, Dan would've felt awkward telling a complete stranger about his and Phil's relationship. But now... Now, he just wanted to shout it from the rooftops. Nothing was going to tear them apart, not after that.
"Well, a special boy, actually."
She hid her surprise well. "How lovely! Are you looking for a wedding ring, or..."
He thought.
"Something like that, yeah."
*****
Four hours later, Dan was sprinting home through the rain, a tiny box tucked into his pocket, the coffee and chocolate forgotten.
