Sherlock bought a cake for his birthday. It happened to be John's least favorite, but Sherlock was so proud of himself for having remembered John's birthday, let alone having actually gotten him something, that John couldn't bring himself to do anything less than smile and choke down a second piece while Sherlock watched anxiously.
