The good Professor Oreon was not a well known researcher by any means. Of course, it helped that he was more of a private researcher, doing his own thing without worrying about other scientists getting in the way or telling him what to do. Some would call him a mad scientist, but he preferred not to interact with those sorts of people.
Regardless of his status in the scientific community, that did not belittle the importance of his work, particularly his current project. One he had worked on on his own... along with his very helpful assistant, of course. Speaking of assistant... "Ah, there you are." he looked up from his tablet and smiled at the Sharpedo staring at him, partially submerged in the lake he had chose as a place to experiment. "How was it? Nothing wrong with your swimming ability, yes? Did you make friends down there?" he joked.
And that was when the torrent of water came head on.
...
"Really now, Mac my boy, did you have to soak me so thoroughly? I have quite a bit of sensitive equipment, you know." the Grey-haired professor grumbled. It had been about an hour after they already started walking, and his clothes were still dripping.
"I was just giving you plenty of data on the power of a water-type attack, Professor." The young lad known as Mac commented in a half hearted defense.
"Hrm. I suppose it was my fault for using data from a Sharpedo that knew Surf." the Professor shook some water out of his hair. He thanked himself for waterproofing his harder to replace materials. "And for not factoring your tendency to act out when transformed into the test. Honestly, and here I thought you liked water types." he snarked towards his assistant.
The young boy adjusted his hat before stuffing his hands into his pockets. "Hmph... It's just, I dunno, the more extreme changes are kinda... weird, all over, you know? I kinda... just like keeping at least SOMETHING of me the same. Heck, that Sharpedo was, uh, you know..."
The professor chuckled. "Yes, yes. It's quite alright my boy. Just relax and enjoy the sights for now! We'll leave some of the more 'special' pokemon for another time. Perhaps when you are more experienced with our little gadget!"
Mac couldn't help but laugh. "Yes boss."
And so they continued to walk, up until they saw someone else ahead. A girl, who looked about the same age as Mac. From the looks of it, she was a trainer, too, if the Greninja she was currently brushing and petting was any indication.
Mac, for his part, felt a sense of dread as the professor seemed to get excited, running towards the girl and immediately beginning conversation. The young assistant ran towards the group just as the professor seemed to finish his introductions. "And this is my young, faithful assistant, Mac!" the professor proclaimed proudly, motioning to the boy like one would a trophy they were bragging about.
The assistant in question crossed his arms. "So much for a break..." he grumbled under his breath, giving a wave to the mystery girl as her Greninja seemed to watch them.
"It's nice to meet you, Mister Oreon, Mac!" the girl smiled. "My name is Lindsay! How can I help you?"
The Professor seemed to be quite pleased with the politeness of the girl. "Ahem! I am currently on an adventure to see many pokemon for an experiment of mine, you see. And I couldn't help but notice what a fine example of a Greninja you have here!"
