Lacey's POV

1, 2, melatonin is coming for you
3, 4, baby won't you lock the door?
5, 6, I'm done with this
7, 8, it's getting late, so close your eyes, sleep the days
Hush, little baby, drink your spoiled milk
I'm fucking crazy, need my perscription filled
Do you like my cookies?
They're made just for you
A little bit of sugar, but lots of poison too

I get pushed back into reality when I see Shawn saunter past and grab a girl around the waist and hug her, gripping her waist.

The girl turns around and smiles. She laughs at something he said and pulls him to her by tugging on his collar of his shirt, kissing him passionately.

Blaire? Why is Blaire kissing Shawn? Jack is her boyfriend!

I look away when I see her look over and wink in my direction.

It wasn't meant for me, we don't talk anymore.

I turn around and who do my eyes collide with?

Jackson Krecioch, Blaire's ex boyfriend.

How cliche.

I take out my earbuds and turn off my phone, gathering my things and getting up from the beanbag chair I was sitting in. I walk out of the library silently, in hopes of not being noticed by Shawn or Blaire.

*2 Hours Later*

"Hey mom! I'm home!" I call throughout the house, leaving my keys on the table. "How was work?"

I don't get a reply and figure she's out.

She didn't leave a note though, that's odd. She would have left a note or texted me. I think, checking the fridge and the kitchen counter.

I check my phone for any texts or calls from my mom.

There are none.

Relax, Lace. She probably forgot.

I trudge up the stairs to my room with my phone in hand and my shoes in the other.

Ding!

I recieced a text.

Thinking it was my mom, I frantically search for it in my purse.

I grab it and look at the text.

Unknown number: Hi there. It's Emily. We have a project in science and you gave me your number so we could meet up and work on it. Is this a good time?

I add her to my contacts and reply:

Me: Not really. My mom isn't home and she doesn't like me having people over when she's gone.

Emily: You can come here, if you want.

Me: Thanks, but if she gets home and I'm not here, that would worry her. I want to try and avoid that

Emily: That's understandable. Maybe later, then?

Me: Totally.

I flop on my bed and sigh. I hear a tap at my window and immediately sit up, hoping it's Shawn.

It's not.

How weird.

I curl up and get under my blanket.

My eyelids begin to get heavy and I fall asleep.
