Zacky’s POV

We drove back to the house, getting weapons and everything ready. I came downstairs quickly to grab the masks. I walked back upstairs and handed them to the girls.

“You’re going to need these,” I said as they took them from my hand and put them on. Heath adjusted her belt on her waist, containing her knife and a handgun. Mia put the bow around her shoulders and a quiver on her back.

“Let’s do this, guys,” Mia said coming closer to the both of us. “For Syn,” she said and Heath and I repeated. We headed down the stairs and out the door. Maybe even, for our final mission.

I parked just outside of the warehouse that we were informed about.

“Okay, this is it,” I said pointing at the old building.

“It’s pretty big. Are we going to find him in there today?” Heath asked.

“Probably not, I brought a couple blankets for sleeping,” I said reaching for my backpack. Heath nodded and looked up at the building again. I got out of the car and threw the backpack over my shoulder. Everyone else followed and I went around to the front of the car.

“Well guys, this is it. It’s time,” I said starting towards the door. I opened the door carefully and peaked through. All I could see was dust and old furniture. I waved my hand for Heath to go through. Mia and I stayed back a bit, while she explored the room.

“I think we’re clear, guys,” she said shining the flashlight at us. Mia and I walked over to Heath and observed the room. It was fairly big and I knew there would be more like this. We walked into the next room and Mia and I took our spots quite behind Heath. She looked around again and she abruptly stopped.

“Shh, guys, did you hear that?” she asked taking her knife out of her pocket. I aimed my bow around the room and finally, we heard a little scuttling noise. I jutted to the spot I had heard from and watched closely. I shot my arrow and heard a gasp. A guy fell over onto the cold concrete. We all walked over to him and studied his body. It was one of the guys that got chosen to do the quest. My eyes widened and so did Mia’s as she remembered seeing him at the meeting. I dug through his pockets just to see if he had anything, guns, ammunition, etc. I grabbed his cell phone and dug it out.

“His cell has service here,” I said tossing it over to Heath. She nodded and quickly slid it into her pocket.

“If he was just here, the other ones shouldn’t be too far up ahead,” I said continuing to the next room. Heath scanned and checked it. Nothing.

“Great, has anyone seen the stairs?” Mia asked rubbing her hand down her face. Heath and I both shook our heads.

A few hours passed and we had finally found the stairs. Heath walked up stealthily, opening the door in front of her, when a gun was shot. Heath reacted and slammed the door back into its original place. She turned to us.

“Okay well, there’s people there,” she said facepalming. I held my bow close and walked in Mia right beside me. We slid onto the ground, but no gunfire was shot. I looked around the floor and saw no one. I was about to get up to let Heath in when Mia tapped me. She pointed up on the far, east wall and there stood the rest of the group. I made the mistake of getting up and waving at them. They turned around and started shooting their guns at me. I ducked, nearly getting hit a few times and rolling behind a box.

“Just like you said,” I heard one of the guys say, “they’re here.”

I cringed at the thought of them waiting for us, when I heard a familiar voice.

“Great, now kill them,” the familiar voice said, over what I assumed to be a walkie-talkie. I started shuffling over from box to box to distract them from Mia as she went around and shot them. I heard a gun fire and quickly stood up; Mia had shot one of the guys in the back of the neck.

“I’m so proud,” I said smiling at her. We heard footsteps from the rafters above and we both quickly ducked into boxes. I could hear them on the metal stairs coming down when I saw a body land right beside me.

“Oh my God!” I jumped up and yelled. Heath had slashed him from behind and took the last guy hostage.

“Wait, till he sees you,” the guy said in Heath’s arms. I walked up to him and noticed his lip was bleeding. I punched him square in the nose and knocked him out cold. Heath let go of him and he fell to the ground.

“Well, so much for a hostage,” Heath said. I laughed and looted from him.

“Mia, you’re safe you can come out now,” I said and Mia stood up looking over at us worried.

“Heath, how did you even..” Mia trailed off.

“Get in here?” Heath finished and Mia nodded. “I heard your gunshot so I snuck in and snuck up behind some guys,” she said yawning once.

“Hey, what time is it?” I asked Heath as she took out the guys cellphone.

“12:18am,” she said widening her eyes. “Oh my God, it’s been 4 hours,” she trailed off pacing around the room.

“Hun, don’t stress, it’s not good for the baby,” I said smiling over at her.

“And this is?” she said motioning around the room and to her belt. I laughed slightly.

“Okay, well the best we can do for you is you can sleep,” I said, pulling off my backpack and grabbing the blankets I had brought. I sprawled them out into a make-shift bed. Mia came over and helped set it up. Heath laid down on it, and said,

“Hey Zacky?”

“Hmm?”

“You’re the first on watch,” she said, laughing sleepily. I laughed and nodded.

“Fine, I’ll be on lookout.”

And with that I was left alone, while the girls slept.
