Chiron's Point of view

I had just finished teaching an archery class to a group of Iris campers, I was heading to the big house. Dionysus and I were going to have an afternoon game of Pinochle. I walked up onto the porch, and was heading toward my wheelchair and the card table when Percy walked up to me. only slightly surprised to see him I said, "Percy what brings you here?"

He answered, "Chiron there is something I want to tell you, can we speak in private?"

he pointed toward the big house.

I said, "of course"

In reality he could have just told me that he needed to speak to me in private, that's what any of the other gods would have done, but Percy wasn't like them. His new power hadn't gone to his head. He had remained the modest, loyal and caring hero I had known since he was twelve.

we walked into the big house, and then he said, "Chiron what I am about to tell you, I want you to keep it between us. I won't make you swear on the Styx, but please don't tell anyone else what I am about to tell you."

I answered, "Of course. What did you want to tell me?"

Percy replied, "There is a demigod in Lower Manhattan, he won't have to come here for at least a decade, because he is still only an infant, but I am telling you now because you have always been like a second father to me so I trust you, also when the time comes and he has to come here I would like your help in making sure He gets here safely.  He will most likely be a very powerful demigod so when he is older he will need to be properly trained so he will survive."

I had my suspicions, about why this demigod was so important to Percy that he was telling me now when the boy is still so young, but to confirm them I said, "Of course I will do what I can to make sure he gets here safely when the time comes, but why are you telling me this when the boy is still so young? Who is he? And if I'm not overstepping my bounds why will you need my help? I thought that most of the ancient laws do not bind you."

Percy answered, "You're not overstepping, and the keyword in your last question Chiron is most. Unfortunately my hands are still tied when it comes to my own children."

My suspicions as hard as they were to believe, were just confirmed by that one sentence. Percy continued

He said, "I can interfere with my children once they learn the truth about me, but not before. You may have heard rumors a while back about me falling for a mortal, well they weren't rumors they were the complete truth. The boy I was talking about is my son, Luke Charles Smith. I just thought I should tell you so you could help me make sure he gets here safely when the time comes."

I nodded in response.

After Percy said his son's name I quickly guessed that Percy had at least some say about what his son's name would be. There was no way that the fact that his son's first and middle names were the first names of two of my former students who had died during the second titan war could be a coincidence. After I figured that out though I couldn't help but wonder how much Percy had told the mortal he had been with about himself.

I couldn't help but ask, "After hearing Luke's name I can't help but wonder how much you told his mother about yourself?"

Percy sighed and ran a hand through his hair before answering, "before our relationship ended I told her quite a bit actually. The day we met I quickly learned that she was clear sighted when she saw through the mist I was using to hide my real eye colour.  That day I told her a few things about myself but I didn't tell her that I'm a god. A couple weeks later though I did tell her the truth about me. during the time we were together I told Amber quite a bit about myself. Once she told me that she was pregnant I told her that Luke would eventually have to come here and told her how to get here."

After Percy finished explaining I nodded in response. From his tone of voice during his explanation I guessed that he still cared for Luke's mother a great deal and I guessed that the only reason he'd left was because he'd had no other choice.

I said "It will be interesting to see what he's like when he gets here, He may be just as great a hero as you someday."

Percy sighed and then replied, "I don't want him to be a great hero, I just want him to be able to defend himself well enough to fend off any monsters he runs into."

I nodded, that makes sense no one would wish a hero's fate upon anyone, And Percy had one of the hardest lives a demigod can have.

Percy asked, "Is Grover here? Last time we talked he said he would be coming back here soon."

I answered, "Yes he got back the other day, he is probably with Juniper."

Percy nodded and said, "Thanks Chiron for everything.  I'm going to go talk to Grover It's been a while since we last saw each other." I nodded and he walked away heading toward the woods.
