Lucy was sitting at the kitchen table the next morning trying to pull her shoes on while I tried to get Noah to eat something. He had decided suddenly this morning that he didn't like eggs anymore though I suspected he was just copping an attitude.

"Daddy, can't get this one on."

I set the spoon down and knelt down to get her shoe on. It slipped on without a problem,

"There. Tie it and then we gotta go."

She looked up at me,

"Are you and mumma gonna get back together?"

I stopped, halfway between pulling Noah out of his high chair and leaving him there. I looked back at her,

"Uh...Diz?" She looked at me as if she'd just asked the most natural question in the world, "Your mom and I are...talking."

Lucy nodded,

"I know. You went on a date last night."

I finished pulling Noah out of the chair,

"How did you know that?"

"I heard Jess and Uncle Niall talking."

I reminded myself to slap Niall upside his head when I saw him later. I grabbed Noah's bag and turned her to the garage,

"Get in the car. We've got to get going."

Lucy hopped into the front seat after I opened the door. I strapped Noah into his baby seat and then jogged around to the driver's side. Lucy was just finished with her seat belt as I backed out of the garage,

"Is it good that you're talking?"

I was hoping she'd have forgotten but once my child got an idea in her head she was like a dog with a bone. I looked over at her as I drove down our street,

"Yes, Baby. Talking is always good." She set her elbow on the center console and then set her chin in her hand, looking up at me as if she was expecting a further explanation. I couldn't help but smile, if there was any doubt she was her mother's daughter it was trumped at that moment, "What?"

She blinked a few times,

"Daddy..." She said, a touch of warning in her tone.

I slowed to a stop at a stop light and looked over at her,

"Diz, your mum and I are working on being better parents for you and your brother. And everything that goes with that. Ok?"

She flashed me a cheesy grin and reached forward to turn up the radio. I shook my head as the light turned green. This kid was gonna run the world one day.

I stood next to Emily while Lucy played her soccer game. Niall stood a few feet away, yelling and screaming like he was at a professional match.

I could feel the heat from Em's body she was so close. It took everything in me not to reach over and slide my arm around her waist the way I used to when we were at these games. But I didn't want to upset her in a group of people and I wasn't sure we were there yet. So I settled for just being close enough to her to feel her spirit.

She took a deep, shaky breath. I felt myself smile. It felt good to know she was still affected by me.

Lucy scored the winning shot and the entire side of our field erupted in cheers. No one could stop Niall from running out onto the field, grabbing Lucy and hoisting her up onto his shoulders. Emily giggled,
