So, every since I've finished high school... I've had so much spare time to read whatever books I wanna read and it is the greatest thing to ever happen to me...
I recently finished 'The Giver' by Lois Lowry and I freaking loved it. Turns out there are 3 other books that go in a series (It's part of a quartet) and I'm trying to hunt them down since I found The Giver for like a dollar in a second hand shop (Usually where I find all of my books tbh)...
I checked my local library and the website says that they have all of them available but they are currently rearranging the place and I have no clue where to look for them and I'm a weenie and don't like to ask... so yea... (Where the YA section used to be is now like a study area for high schoolers and there were so many of them studying there and when I walked over they all looked up and started staring at me to the point that it made me too anxious to investigate so I just kinda left... I hate people around my age... they are so frightening omg...)
trust me... it's a saga...
ANYWAY... until I track down those books without spending too much money, I wanted to read some other books.
Now, I'm kinda picky when is comes to reading... mostly because I'm really bad a reading (I'm 91% sure I'm dyslexic when it comes to reading or something because I've always had issues) and it takes me a hell of a long time to read a book so it's a fucking commitment for me...
I'm looking for books to read, weather they be physical books or on Wattpad!
I've been reading 'Misfits' by MelancholyMango and omg it is fucking great holy shit. But it's updated like once a month and my patience isn't great so... (For real though, if you're looking for a Phan Fiction (It's also got a bit of kickthestickz in the later chapters fyi) or just generally a ghost/demon story, it is fucking unreal and I love it so much... And it is LONG AS HELL, It took me like a month or two to get up to date (back when it was at 25 chapters))
But, enough about books that are great... Let me tell you the kind of stories I like!
My FAVOURITE books are ones that are dystopian! Give me anything with a chaotic society, zombies, plagues, natural disasters, survival of the fittest... You name it, I'll read it! The Hunger Games Series is what got me into reading after spending my whole childhood hating the past time. I also love the Divergent Series but I'm watching the movies because I'm an uncultured swine; Same with Maze Runner and the 5th Wave. As I said I've read The Giver; I've also read Tomorrow When The War Began (Loved the book, Movie fucking sucked), Safe Zone (by leader-of-foxes on Wattpad... It's a pewdiecry fanfiction... don't judge me, It's really great) and Incognito (by Claire Carmichael which isn't the greatest but I really liked the concept). I also love The Walking Dead game with a passion... which is basically a book since it's so story driven... I really like zombies ok...
I also like books that are very... slice-of-lifey if that's the right term? I don't know... I'm not a huge fan of fantasy, I prefer real life situations if that makes sense? I like The Perks of Being A Wallflower a lot... The Fault In Our Stars is pretty neat, same with Paper Towns... I also like the game Life Is Strange, which again might as well be a book since it's so story driven...
I also really want to read more LGBT+ books!! They are so hard to find irl!!! I've read Lunaby Julie Anne Peters which is hands down my favourite book just because it's from the point of view of a sister of a transgirl and I've never found a book like it before. It's the first and only book I've found (that's actually published... I know I could find 2 billion on Wattpad...) that has a trans person as the main focus and it'll forever have a special place in my heart. I've also read Ask the Passengersby A.S. King which from memory is a lesbian story... it's been a couple of years since I did read it so I could be wrong (by that I mean the characters could have been bi/pan or maybe didn't identify... I don't want to generalise two girls being in love as only being a lesbian relationship... just thought i'd be clear on that!)... but I remember not being able to put it down because it was just so nice idk... It was the first ever LGBT+ book (It might have even been back before I started reading fanfiction tbh) I read and it was 100% BY ACCIDENT! It was before I even knew I was trans and I didn't even know what the LGBT community was! I just saw the cover at the library and was like 'This looks like a nice book'... I was surprised and extremely fascinated by it! I'm happy I got the chance to read it.
Another aspect I look for in a book which, from what I've seen online and heard from friends, may be an unpopular opinion is that I prefer first person. I feel like most people prefer third person but I like first person a lot more tbh... I like being in one persons mind and observing everything from one biased point of view... i don't really know why, I just always have... It's definitely not a necessity (The Giver was third person) just thought I'd add that...
I currently have a stack of books on my shelves that I haven't read yet that I thought I would mention... to see if any of you guys would recommend any of them or have any thoughts... I'll list them:
+ City of Bones & City of Ashes from the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare... My friends always rave about how great they are so I picked the first two up but haven't gotten around to reading them... from what I've heard I think it's fantasy-y so I've been reluctant to read them but idk?
+ Fallen & Torment & Passion from the Fallen Series by Lauren Kate. I don't really know why I bought them, I know nothing about the series...
+Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief - Sea of Monsters - Titan's Curse - Battle of the Labyrinthby Rick Riordan... Everyone on Tumblr adores the series and I found the first 4 for $2 each so I thought I'd buy them since if I didn't like them, I could always give them to my younger brother... Again, I know absolutely nothing about the series...
+ Feedby Mira Grant... It got zambies so I bought it... don't judge me... it's also apparently the first book in a series so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If you guys recommend any of those, let me know!
But I would also like to hear from you guys and what your favourite books are! And if you have any books that would fit any of the descriptions I've given or if you know any similar books to the ones I've listed that would be freaking awesome!
As I said, they don't need to be physical, published books... If you know of any super awesome Wattpad stories, let me know because that would save me some of dat cash, plus most Wattpad stories are way better than published ones!!!!! (I don't mind cheeky #spons from you guys... if you got a good story that you've written then LET ME KNOW! I'd LOVE to read it :D)
As I was typing this huge entry out, I was thinking that maybe I should start a book here on Wattpad filled with book reviews/recommendations... would that be a good idea? I already have a book filled with song reviews and people seem to like those so...? maybe? Is that a good idea? idk??? I could do reviews of books irl and from Wattpad??? HELP???
Anyway, thank you in advance! I want to make a big list of books to check out!!
