When you were younger, it had been no secret you'd been bullied. Taunts about your family, jabs at your lifestyle, it all smeared into a messy smudge in your mind. And soon, Gabriel had become a name that haunted you everywhere you went, plaguing you for years throughout school. He constantly was a burden in your life, and it didn't go unnoticed. Upon request of your caretaker, you picked up self defense classes. You attended it regularly and it rapidly became a hobby. Throughout highschool you'd learned to fight for both fun and defense, and later went on to join the military.
By the time you joined, you hadn't seen Gabriel in years. But, upon your commander noticing your skills, you were elected to be part of a soldier enhancement program. You obliged. Upon being shipped off and your humanity toggled with, you walked out feeling light as a feather. You felt strong and agile, like nothing you'd ever felt before.
It wasn't long you'd been altered upon meeting two other soldiers. Jack Morrison and Gabriel Rayes. You easily befriended both, but it didn't take you long to recognize Gabriel, but he remained oblivious to the fact the once small child he had bullied had risen to become a soldier of equal value to he.
You didn't bring it up due to the fact you didn't expect it to change much for the good. You knew he wouldn't apologize, and you didn't expect him to. You'd changed, but he hadn't.
It was... for the best.
Days carried on, and the rising and decline of Overwatch impacted you all. Hard.
Of course, not as hard as both Morrison and Reyes dying in the base's explosion. Both dead and... Reyes did it? Of course. He'd never been a good person. He bullied, he killed, he was ruthless. You... You hated him.
Life carried on. You were let go upon the super soldier program shutting down after the display of Reyes and Morrison's deaths, and you were fine with it.
Life went on.
Life went... on.
Everyone forgot eventually.
But, you didn't.
~~~
The cool night air remained brisk and unsettling in the grave yard, but you didn't care. Your mind reminded strictly focused on the bodiless graves that sat in front of you. They could forget, but you wouldn't. They'd been your friends.
Yeah, even Reyes. Maybe just a little.
Who could say what was going on in their minds those last few moments. Perhaps regret.
Your eyes watered, but you pushed it down. It's been years. You'd cried you tears for them. You were over it.
If you're over it, why are you still here? Wishing they were alive? Wishing you could've made up with Reyes? Wishing you told Morrison how great of a leader he was?
A shaky breath expelled from your mouth as your knees gently began to shake. Rubbing your eyes to rid of the tears that had fallen, you slid onto the ground.
God, how you missed them.
The wind continued to howl, but you didn't care. After all that shit they pumped into you, you couldn't feel it anymore. You couldn't feel a lot of things.
Why did you still have to feel sorrow?
Silence engulfed you as your tears continued to fall, your shoulders shaking slightly. The night drew on, and for one of the first times in your life you felt that maybe you should've died in the explosion. You had no purpose anymore.
This, of course, brought a fresh wave of tears crashing upon you.
"Wow, (Last Name), you've really let yourself go." A cruel snicker followed it.
You tensed, shock coursing through you. Someone knew who you were. And that someone was right behind you. How hadn't you noticed? You cursed under you breath.
"Fuck yourself. If you're here to kill me, do it." You snapped, still not turning to look at them. You made a half-assed attempt to dry your tears, then giving up. It didn't matter.
"Aww, don't recognize me?" The person crouched down in front of you, placing a finger under your chin to force your attention to them.
You were met with a ghostly owl-like mask and a leathery costume of sorts. Your eyes narrowed, pissed off. He was sure taking his time with killing you. "Hot Topic cashier?"
He growled, obviously not finding it funny. You didn't care, you laughed anyways.
"No, you idiot, it's me." He discarded his mask to the grass and you were left blinking multiple times. You tried to yank your head away, to pretend you hadn't seen it, but he kept your head in place. Your heart dropped.
"R-Reyes?" You stuttered, your previously pissed attitude dropping and tears forming in your eyes once again. His scarred but normal face stared back at you smugly.
Though smug, he seemed thrown off by your tears. "Why the hell are you crying?" He let go of your face, but remained crouching by you.
"I watched them bury you!" You exclaimed, pushing yourself forward to hug him. He new better than try to evade one of your hugs, so he sat there.
"Nothing to bury. Those are empty graves." He said, rolling his eyes.
"Hey... What about Morrison?" You asked, muffled.
He shuffled. "Uh... Not important."
Pulling you onto your feet he hugged you, placing a small kiss on your forehead. You jolted slightly, confused by his suddenly romantic action.
"You've changed a lot. You're almost as weak as you were in seventh grade." He laughed quietly.
"So you knew it was me?" You asked, eyes wide.
He didn't respond, simply squeezing your hand.
"Reyes I--" You started, but he cut you off.
"Call me Reaper." He handed his mask to you, and all you could do was roll your eyes as his newfound macho attitude.
"I'm not revoking the HotTopic statement." You grumbled, and he cursed.
~~~Second part for our dearest edge lord. This was rushed, and I'm sorry all my chapters have seemed that way lately, but I really do love this book. I've been lacking in chapter requests, so it's been hard to take a direction in this book. I think I'll do Mako or our dearest Zenny-Boi next if I don't get any requests. They're still open though, guys. Don't be scared to ask.
