I didn't think Noah could be so cruel. It broke my heart. Why can't everyone just be nice?
Beetee and the other 'brains' arrived and Noah joined them too. They planed to trap everyone inside the Nut and kill them off. It's a death trap. All initiated by Noah. He was fascinated by how the trap works. Me? I just thought of that day when Father died. The sirens sounded at school and Katniss came to pick me up, just like she said she would if the sirens ever sounded. We made our way out to Mother and waited with her, sitting in the grass with many other families around us. Strangers draped blankets around us, and handed us hot drinks to keep us warm as night approached. We waited until the moon came up, and finally the message was delivered. Father had passed away in the mines. I was only 7 years old but somehow I had managed to stay calm. I remember I was extremely sad, but I understood what Katniss and Mother told me. I didn't cry or complain like the others around us who said it wasn't fair, that they should go get their parents from the mines, denying the truth.
I now watch as the mountains are bombed at the Nut is getting completely covered in Earth. I can imagine the people suffocating inside, looking for a way out as the dirt covers their poorly managed ventilation systems, cutting them off from their source of oxygen.
"Prim?" Haymitch comes in through my earpiece.
"Yes?" I answer, thinking about the time he threatened to put a chip in my brain so he could talk to me 24/7. I now listen to his instructions very well.
"Get inside," he tells me.
"Okay, I will," I tell Haymitch and do as he says. I guess they thought it was dangerous for me to stay out.
As I watch Beetee head toward me, I didn't know what to think. He didn't initiate the bombing; Noah did. I always thought Noah was nice and stuff but maybe he has another side. Or maybe I was just immature and liked him for being cute. Extremely cute. After all, what did he ever do for me that made me like me? I don't think there was anything.
"We didn't bomb the tunnels, I hope that cheers you up," Beetee says. It does. Noah had said that we should bomb the tunnels too, so that the people in the Nut had absolutely no way of escaping. I said we shouldn't. Apparently I won.
I head downstairs to watch the ongoing fight between the rebels and the Peacekeepers. The train should be here any moment. Boggs and the soldiers are fighting the peacekeepers off so that we'll have full access to the rails when it finally arrives. The Peacekeepers are trying hard to fight back and come rescue the people from the train, but it ain't happening.
"Gale has been improving immensely," Haymitch tells me through the earpiece. According to him, Gale has been in the company of Katniss, and thanks to me, Pollux too.
"That's great," I tell Haymitch, and I truly mean it. Rory misses Gale. I hope the real him comes back soon.
"Let's film a propo here, showing that we've taken over the Nut and so the remaining people from Two surrender," Cressida tells me. I nod and face Castor who's doing the filming. It's a bit weird seeing him without Pollux because they usually come in a set. But I know the brother is doing great back in Thirteen so it's a good kind of weird.
"People of District Two, this is Primrose Everdeen speaking-" I'm cut off when the train finally comes in with a bunch of people. They're all heavily armed. We expected that. What I didn't expect was for someone to try to kill me. He's an old man, and he points his gun with a stern look on his face.
"Give me a reason not to shoot you," he says. I gulp.
"I can't," I tell him. It takes him by surprise.
"What?"
"I can't," I repeat. "You have every reason to shoot me. I blew up your mine, and burned your district." Technically that was Noah... "You have all the reasons to kill me, so do it. Make the Capitol happy. I'm not killing their slaves for them anymore."
Inside I'm trembling but my voice comes out extremely calm. I lower my weapon and place it on the floor to let him know I'm series.
"I'm not their slave..." he mumbles.
"Well...I am," I tell him. "I killed Cato...he killed Thresh...he killed Clove...she tried to kill me. It goes around and around but no one wins. Not really...It's just the Capitol. And I don't want to be a piece in their games anymore."
"Keep going," Haymitch's voice encourages me.
"I saw the mountain fall and I thought...the capitol has won all over again, once more, like always. Since when do miners condemn other miners to the same fate? Why are we fighting?"
"I don't know," the man says, he lowers his gun just slightly.
"We have one enemy, and it's not the rebels. We have one enemy, and that's the Capitol! Join us, and fight the one and only enemy!"
I watch myself on the screen, hoping for some kind of battle cry running through the crowd. Maybe for once things will go as I hope. Maybe for once we'll all be united against a single enemy. Instead, I watch myself get shot on the screen.
