ANOTHER PSA: DON'T BASE CHARACTERS OFF YOURSELF

So what some writers tend to do is base their character off them as a person because they feel like they can relate to the character more. Let me just tell you- this isn't the way about making a character.

Basing a character off yourself means you will most likely get so wrapped up in making it exactly like yourself that you lose either the plot or originality of character. You will most likely make your character sound boring and dull (depending on what genre you write in) because let's be real for a moment- most people aren't as exciting as fictional characters.

It also makes you personally prone to criticism as people may not like your character which you may take more personally than if they were talking about one of your fictional characters.

If you become obsessed in making your character exactly like yourself, you limit the flexibility of character and situations you can use.

So just don't make your character a replica of yourself. It won't work.
