The dreaded quick change. You get off the stage and you must get to the dressing room, change costumes, come back and get in character in a very short time. It's hard. Here is why.
Loud walking
Making it backstage silently is hard when you are hurrying. I have literally taken off my shoes while walking so my heels wouldn't make sound. I feel bad for people with large costumes or loud costumes. That must be torturous. Then you have to open the door silently. If the door is far away it's not as much as a problem but if not you're doomed.
Costumes
Costumes can be complicated. I had a dress that took way too long to take off one time. We had to cancel my quick change. I have seen costumes they must be horrific to take off. I feel so bad for those people.
Getting in character
After a change it is hard to get completely back into character. It takes a lot of effort to change and get into character in a short amount of time. I guess you could get changed in character but that is not recommended.
