The Value of X and M

Value. In every topic it has a different meaning. It's one of the most used words in a class, depending on what subject was taught...but it was most mysterious in Algebra.

The value is not easily found. You have to search for it...from various variables in order to find that elusive value.

I was accustomed on looking for value as if he is an X, sometimes on things in life.

But in other terms, X could just easily be a mark of a treasured find. An X could just be a marked on days of the past. An X could be a partner of O in a game. But I think it's well known for its "special" significant placement on a past lover's name. It takes pride from being put at the front of anything past...and well known for being the first to be identify in the word as the X in a boyfriend...you've move pass by.

But that is not the X, I was looking for. Because this X is of value. An important search of one self. Of looking for something you know is valuable but did not know where, when and what to find...this X is far too precious to just simply be found in days...and so it took years.

Years, to earn its value...to try to find it...to realize what it could mean in a life...in my life...Because finding the value of a missing variable represented by a letter X is not as simple as an Algebra problem in life.

In life, you can't simply see all the variables because the bigger picture is not seen by you. You're not the one that created such formula...it was made even before you knew. It's a find you didn't notice until it is right in front of you.

And once it does, all you have to do is realize that the value of X is within you. You're the only one who could define how valuable it could or would be in your life. That it is a He. A person that is valuable, far more than you thought you know. That you could have live without meeting or finding him...but then that would be a life with a void unknown and will forever have a dark place in your universe because the value of X is not found.

In that unfound scenario, it is sad that you don't know that the value of X is waiting in the dark. Alone and lost.

"Arrgghh! Ang hirap naman nito! Algebra and I, is not really on friendly terms!" Maine exclaimed and laid her body on her bed. She put her laptop away on the bedside table and stared up at the ceiling.

"If Algebra is use to describe the story of my life...is there a simple way to do it?"

She put her arm on top of her eyes and grinned as she said out loud her thoughts.

"I could just tell that, ALas! GEnivieve found a friend in me, BRAve and cute!"

Maine was surprise when a pillow was thrown at her stomach. She quickly rise up, sitting on the bed and saw her Ate Coleen. "What?!"

"Finish your assignment properly" Coleen said. She place her hands on her waist and raise an eyebrow, "You know, you won't get away with that answer"

Maine laughed, "I will. Watch me" She type the words she thought of and click send.

"Hay, Menggay! Ewan ko sa iyo. Bahala ka na nga. I'm sure papasa ka pa rin naman kasi you pass that first draft you made, right?"

"Yes, pinaghirapan ko rin yun"

"Good. Good. Tara, ice cream tayo"

"Libre mo? Di ba nakakataba yun?"

"Heh! Tumigil ka! Ikaw na nga ililibre dyan eh"

"Okay. Okay. Tara!"

Palabas na sila ng kwarto ng magtanong uli si Coleen. "So, nahanap mo ba ang value of X?"

"No idea. Di ko pa rin alam. Maybe after I graduated I'll find it"

"Sabagay, aanhin mo ang X as in X-tra special someone, kung may C ka naman?"

"Huh? Anong C?"

Ngumiti ang ate nya. "C, as in C-ister, hehe."

Maine laughs out loud. "Waley, waley yan" inakbayan niya ang kapatid, "Tara na nga C-ister. Kailangan mo ng ice cream"

"You think?"

"Oo, mga one gallon"

"Heh! Kulit mo!"

"Hehe! At ililibre mo ang makulit na ito!"

High School Alden in Class:

"Richard Faulkerson Jr.! Ano itong pinasa mo?"

"Ang assigment ko po, Ms. Ferre"

"Yes, I know that. Pero bakit ang buong alphabet ito? Saan dito related ang Algebra na topic na binigay ko to describe your life?"

Napakamot siya sa batok at ngumiti. "Kasi po, di ba, puro, a, b, c at x and y ang Algebra...so ayan, nilagay ko po dyan, lahat ng value ng mga letter na yan sa buhay ko."

Natigilan ang guro nila. She stared back at the teenager and sighs. "Okay, sige. Palulusutin kita. Present this to the class tomorrow. Bahala ka na kung paano mo ipe-present. Make it good...Because this will be one third of your grade for the finals. Okay?"

"Ha?! Pero, Ma'am..."

"Oops! Walang pero-pero. Ikaw, gumawa ng assignment mo na ganito. So, suffer the consequences"

"Yes po." Tumalikod siya at naupo na.

Ms. Ferre stared at the piece of paper containing Richard's "Algebra/Alphabet" life. She can't help but smile when she reads the meaning of M on it... "Mother, I love most"

Tumingin siya sa kanyang estudyante na bumalik nasa upuan at narinig niya itong bumulong, "Bahala na"

A few years after...

The letter M was replaced by another meaning into Richard's life...and that "Bahala na" song is one of the tools that made him notice her.

Their Algebra in Life:

"M= Maine, I love most"

"X = Richard Faulkerson Jr."
