A Kitten

Random idea! This takes place in book two shortly after Ratchet and June break up.

Bumblebee furrowed his brow as he pulled up to the school. There was a group of kids kneeling by something. He parked then turned off his car before getting out and walking over. Raf looked up at him as he approached and waved.

*Hey Raf, what's going on?* He signed as he furrowed his brow. The boy grabbed his sleeve and pulled him to the group. He saw they were looking at a storm drain.

He crouched by them and they all started talking at once. He frowned and held his hands up to stop them. They went quiet and he was about to ask when he heard a tiny meow. He furrowed his brow and laid on the concrete as he looked down into the gap. There was a tiny kitten staring up at him covered in mud and shaking. He looked at it sadly and then glanced at the kids.

"Can you help him Mister?" A girl about Raf's age asked quietly. He looked at the kids surrounding him and they all pleaded with there eyes. How was he supposed to say 'no' to them?

He smiled slightly and nodded once with a look of determination. They all smiled big and he focused on the task at hand. He furrowed his brow and reached into the gap. The kitten backed away and fell into some dirty water. It panicked and tried to get out but ended up on a ledge. Bumblebee looked at it sadly and could see it was tired. He made gentle clicking noises with his tongue and reached for it again.

The kids watched in anticipation as he managed to pet the poor creature. He quickly grabbed it by the back of the neck and watched as it struggled to get free. He carefully pulled it out and the children cheered. He grinned and set the kitten on its feet for a moment, before picking it up again and holding it in his arms. Raf hugged his friend and went to get something to clean the kitten. Bumblebee moved to the grass and carefully cleaned it up. Raf and a few kids sat by him until they had to go. Miko and Jack came over and watched. The scout smiled as he saw the kitten was actually yellow.

*Raf it's the same color as me!* he signed as he grinned, then looked at himself. *Well... you know what I mean.* he smiled nervously.

"Let's take him back to the base and show the others." Miko said as she smiled mischievously. They looked at each other unsure about that.

"Ratchet!" The medic sighed in exasperation and looked to the hallway. Smokescreen came running in and stopped by him.

"What is this thing?!" He asked as he pointed to his face. The medic frowned and started reading his books.

"I honestly don't know anymore." He muttered as he looked through some books. "It's either an infectious disease, an infectious spider bite, or a growth of some kind." He mumbled.

"Why is it always an infectious disease?!" He yelled angrily as he waved his arms around. "Why can't it just be.... I don't know! Something else!" He said. Ratchet slammed a book shut and glared at him.

"Do you want me to figure this out or not?" He snapped angrily. The young man huffed and sat on the berth.

"First we get turned into humans, then I have to deal with things that ail these beings. Like the flu, a sunburn, a heart attack, anything Miko can think of, and now this!" He yelled angrily as he motioned to the speedster. Bumblebee and the kids had come back to the base. They looked at each other nervously. Miko glanced at the Rookie and smirked.

"Nice zit." She muttered. His eyes widened and he looked at the medic. Ratchet face palmed and exhaled forcefully.

"If I have to deal with anymore surprises, I'm going to -"

"Meow." He stopped suddenly and looked at Smokescreen. The Rookie shrugged and they looked at the kids. Bumblebee looked around as if he was trying to figure out what happened.

"Bumblebee... did you just... meow?" Smokescreen asked as he furrowed his brow in confusion. The scout shook his head and the kitten meowed again.

"What are you hiding?" Ratchet growled angrily and walked over to him.

He hesitated and looked at the others who had now gathered. He wasn't sure what to say and the kitten poked it's head out of his jacket. The bots gasped and walked over to him. Bumblebee smiled nervously and held it up so the could see.

"Aaaaw... she's cute." Bulkhead said and smiled as he pet it. The kitten purred and Bee let him hold it.

"What's her name kid?" Wheeljack asked as he pet it Bumblebee furrowed his brow and shrugged slightly.

"It doesn't matter! It's not staying!" Ratchet yelled and limped back to the computer.

"Aw come on Doc." Wheeljack smirked as he watched the kitten curl up on his friends shoulder. Bulkhead chuckled softly and smiled at Miko. She grinned and took a few pictures.

"What does it do?" Smokescreen asked as he looked at it. Optimus walked into the room and raised an eyebrow. He quietly stood by them and stared at the kitten.

"Um.... kittens... eat, sleep, play and cuddle." Raf said as he thought. Smokescreen stared at it for a few minutes and listened to it purr.

"Sounds boring." He muttered and walked off. Bulkhead chuckled and watched as the kitten tried to get down.

He set it on the floor and they watched. It went to Optimus and purred loudly as it rubbed up against his leg. The leader stared at it blankly and wasn't sure what to do. It was so small and skinny. He crouched down and pet it a little. The corner of his mouth twitched upwards a little and it looked up at him as it purred. The others watched quietly.

"Optimus likes the kitten! We're keeping it!" Miko yelled and grinned happily. The Autobot leader looked at her and furrowed his brow slightly confused.

"What should we name it?" Bulkhead asked hesitantly.

"Well... it is a she." Raf explained as the kitten ran over to Bumblebee. The scout clicked his tongue as he called it.

"I know! Let's name her Spiff!" Miko said as she grinned.

"Maybe Bumblebee should name it... her if he rescued her." Arcee muttered as she rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.

"Sounds fair." Jack shrugged as he watched them.

Bumblebee grinned happily and picked up the kitten. He followed the kids to the couch and Raf looked up some names on his computer. The little kitten curled up on his shoulder and fell asleep.

After a little while the scout found two names he liked but didn't know which one to choose. He asked the others and they thought. He liked the names Penny and Shiloh.

"Just call it Scraplet or Kaon." Ratchet muttered from the computer. Bumblebee glared at him and decided on the name Penny.

The bots played with the kitten and the kids taught them what to do to take care of it. Smokescreen eventually found the kitten fun and played with it as well. Ratchet kept snapping at them and telling them to be quiet.

After a few hours the bots left to take the kids home. Smokescreen went with Wheeljack into the other room to spar and Optimus wandered off to the kitchen. Ratchet grumbled to himself as he worked. It was quiet for a while and he felt at peace for once. It didn't last long as the kitten landed on the console.

He jumped slightly startled and stared at it. Penny sat there and they seemed to have a staring contest. The medic narrowed his eyes and tried to stare it down.

"What do you want Kaon?" He growled. The kitten just stared at him and started to purr quietly, he glared back.

"Now get this through your head." He muttered slightly annoyed as he put a finger in her face. "I don't like you." He seethed angrily. The kitten purred loudly and rubbed against his finger.He sputtered and glared at her before typing. He ignored her as she rubbed up against his arm. He pushed her away and she just came back. He stared at her blankly and she looked up at him as she purred loudly. The side of his mouth twitched upwards ever so slightly.

"I still don't like you." He mumbled as he pet her and scratched her head. She just looked at him and seemed to smile.
