"Riley, I think I've proven that I care about you and that I've learned a lot about you. I'd really like it if you were standing with me at midnight." Charlie says as Maya and I walk out onto the roof.
"Everything you say makes sense, Charlie." Riley says.
"Is that enough?" He asks.
"No. It's not. You said it. You know it. A good relationship needs more. And you deserve more. I'm sorry." Riley says.
"Don't be. See what the new year brings." Charlie says walking over to the bench by Auggie.
"I'm going to go talk to Charlie." Maya tells me.
"Okay. I'm going by Lucas." I tell her. Then we go our separate ways.
"This spot taken?" I ask Lucas.
"I was saving it." He tells me.
"For who?"
"I don't know anymore." He says letting out a chuckle.
"Hey, Lucas?" I ask.
"Yeah?" He answers.
"Have I ever said anything nice to you?" I ask.
"Yeah, when we were dating." He answers.
"Well, I mean right here. Right now."
"Then no."
"Well it's one minute to midnight, and I'm glad you're standing here." I told him.
"Wow. That kind of makes up for everything." He said.
"Everybody's with someone, huh?" I heard Maya ask Charlie.
"Yeah." He said.
"You know what?" She asked.
"What?"
"This is the first New Years I've ever spent since I was five years-old not standing next to Riley."
"Wow, I'm sorry. You should go sit next to Riley." He told her.
"No, I'm going to sit right here next to you."
"Thanks, ready to count it down?" He asked her.
"Yeah."
"Seven, six, five, four three two one!" Everyone said together.
"Riley still loves Lucas." Farkle blurted out.
"Happy New Year." Riley said embarrassed.
"Thank you for a wonderful evening." Yogi said while pulling Darby with him.
"Yes, thank you Riley. Now I must bring Ray home." Maya said, quickly getting up, pulling Charlie up, grabbing Lucas' arm, and dragging them out the door.
"I'm sorry, guys. I did the right thing. I hope you can forgive me. Happy New Year." Farkle says leaving.
"It's midnight." I say.
"Here we are" Riley says.
