Cat waited in line anxiously, willing it to move faster. Come on, come on, she pleaded, desperate to start her performance. Maybe have a little limelight, for once. Not forever. Just a taster, so she could see what it felt like to be important... Cat smiled dreamily, but just as she was about to lapse into a peaceful daydream-

"Cat!" Sikowitz called. Cat blinked, trying to take in where she was. Of course-the auditions! Duh! Slapping her forehead, she stumbled onto the stage, nearly tripping over her silver glitter pumps. Great. The laces were trailing. Cat decided not to tie them, not wanting to draw attention to them. Plus, she didn't want to waste half her audition time.

"Uh, you called?" Cat giggled, realising that she sounded like a movie or book or something.

"Now, Cat! I assume you're going for the part of an animal?" Sikowitz smiled, taking out his script.

Cat was a little stung. Why was everyone assuming this? Just because she was a kitten who lost her mitten last year?! "Actually, I'd like to audition for Snow White," replied Cat.

"Oh..." Sikowitz blinked. "Go on then."

Cat tossed her script away and started quoting it from heart. She was determined to get this part. It would be the best thing to happen at the moment.

"I'm sorry, I can't let anyone in," said Cat, acting Snow White.

"That's a shame. Do take an apple, dearie," Sikowitz replied, as the Witch in disguise.

This continued without fault until finally, Cat's audition was over. She then went to a seat to watch the rest. Her heart was soaring, racing, beating so fast it was like a whirlwind. Would she get the part? There was a chance-a glimmer of hope. She beamed to herself, watching Tori stride confidently to the centre of the stage.

"Tori! Who are you auditioning as?" Sikowitz asked.

"I'd like to audition for Snow White!" Tori smiled perkily.

Cat's heart dropped with an almighty thunk. Tori. She was word perfect, had great confidence, just like Cat. It was between them, Cat reckoned. But next to Tori, she didn't seem so good, second-best. It was like the spotlight that had finally shone on her for a few seconds was moving over to Tori again. Not that Cat had expected anything different.

But her stomach twisted unpleasantly when Tori sat next to her, all the same.

"Hey, Cat! It went quite well, didn't it? I love Snow White, acting's in my blood, I guess..." Tori babbled on, unaware that Cat's usually smiling face had clear jealousy shining through. Tori had had the main role of plays loads of times. Why didn't other people-like herself- get chances? Because girls like Tori got them all.

"Actually, Jade borrowed my colouring book! I think I need to go find her to get it back..." Cat cut Tori off, too upset to think of a more believable lie. Jade, colouring? That was like saying Cat didn't own a purple giraffe toy called Mr Purple!

...Which she did.

"Colouring book? But Jade doesn't-" began Tori uncertainly, but Cat had already gone.

Then, Tori caught sight of Jade, who was sitting two rows behind them, playing with some scissors. Nope, Jade was definitely not a colouring girl. But why had Cat ran out of the room if Jade was behind them, in clear sight? Tori had no clue.

Meanwhile, Cat had locked herself in the toilets, snuffling sadly. She heard the toilet door swing open, and tried to stifle the sound.

"Cat?" Jade's voice called. Thankful it wasn't Tori, Cat reluctantly opened the door a crack. "Let me in."

"But-" Cat was about to protest she didn't want company, but Jade barged into the door. Cat squealed in pain as Jade invited herself in and locked the cubicle.

"Let that be a lesson to you," nodded Jade.

"What's the lesson?" Cat asked.

"Either open the door fully, or not at all. Otherwise, pain happens. Now, what's up?" Jade replied. She gave Cat a piercing look, the kind of look a teacher would give you when trying to detect if you're lying.

"It's kind of a long story," said Cat evasively, inching towards the cubicle door.

Jade leant against the door, preventing Cat's escape. "I've got all day," smirked Jade. Cat groaned inwardly. Great. Now she had to spill her guts...
